I'm currently a sophomore and intend to apply to a few colleges.

There's just one issue...

I didn't take all pre-reqs for majors and such. I literally took as many eclectic classes as possible. I did this to see what I truly wanted to do. I've always been a finance major but I've taken econ, math, music, language, literature, history, astronomy etc. I've basically taken courses from nearly every school at the college. I've also taken a few upper-level classes like 2 history courses in the 1000's, one as a freshman, and one currently as a sophomore.

Now will this hurt my chances?

GPA:
freshman: 3.5
sophomore: predict it to be higher

REALY good EC's and hopefully good EC's.

I'm applying to a bunch of top 20 schools and places like Harvard (just to take a shot) and can't even apply to NYu b/c I'm not taking their pre-reqs which I personally find a stupid system...

Yury... one thing to clarify - some colleges for example Georgia Tech and many Canadian universities put levels in thousands but most usually use the hundredth level course format.

Taking a 1000 class is equivalent to 1st year or a 100 level class.

Frankly, if you haven't completed the pre-requisites or if a majority of pre-requisites are in progress for completion... than ur chances for admission seems to be bleak...

Harvard college will not accept students who have completed more than 2 years i.e. more than 64 credits of college work (sounds ridiculous though!)

3.5 seems to be very low for an Ivy like Harvard.... u might get in Cornell with a 3.5...one of my freinds did! with no ec's or internship...

I asked this question as well and the only response I got was along the lines that they probably won't immediately reject because you could be transferring from a school that doesnt offer that course.

I'm busting my ___ off to get a 4.0 right now! I honestly think I can be at a 3.7/3.8 by the end of the year, and my EC's are VERY solid including starting TWO companies and such. I will definitely apply to Cornell as well though!

Well, are you working on pre-reqs this term, and moving away from the eclectic approach? Also next term? That could help.

I think the only way we could comment would be to see:
your schedule last year
your schedule this year

The recommended/required courses for your major at the schools you intend to transfer. Being somewhat off shouldn't hurt too much. Being way off may hurt quite a bit; it certainly does for majors like Engineering. Not sure re finance.

I'm actually off but not. What I mean is, all my classes fill the general reqs required to graduate regardless. But I'm only taking 2 finance classes so far.
