A..different type of essay?

Most of the college essays I have read from books and such seem to be very anecdotal. This is very restricting, as my current essay is more persuasive than anecdotal. This worries me. It's not persuasive as in SAT style persuasive. It is an answer to a philosophical question.

Will the colleges see my essay and be like, "OMG-she haz lyk nooo personality"? Because I hope through my answer I can showcase some of my personality.

Please help =/

pm it to me
i will try to help

I’m actually not done with my essay yet. I just want a general opinion of what is in the boundaries of “college essays.”

So is persuasive bad, anecdote good?

…

Well you def. want to stand out. Just make sure your opinion wont come off as offensive or step on too many toes…or you don’t want to come off too pushy with your opinion. But, on the other had, a strong persuasion essay will show your strong belief in something…
I guess I can’t really answer your question if I can’t read some of it.
Sorry. If you want, when your done, you can PM your essay.

Hehe, thank you both anyway.

I would say that personal, detailed, and revealing is good. In my experience, though, kids have had trouble putting together a philosophical essay that is personal, detailed, and revealing. Writing philosophically is hard.

However, if you can put together a philosophical essay that is personal, detailed, and revealing–good for you!

If you’d like me to look at yours, feel free to PM it to me.

There is good advice about college essays at

[Essays, Admission Information, Undergraduate Admission, U.Va.](http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/writingtheessay.html)

Persuasive essays can become dangerous…though the admission people should be perceiving you on the terms of your writing, if they disagree with you it can create a bias.

Also, many times persuasive essays don’t really show who you are as a person, justw hat you think on an issue (though it sounds like youre going philosophical on this one).

So just be careful. Its much more safe to go with a narrative.
