My D is a junior and was planning on taking her SAT I in May and SAT II in June. Well, something has come up and she needs to travel on those two week-ends and will not be able to take the tests both dates. Is there an exception that the CollegeBoard makes for these situations? Has anybody faced this problem and have you approached CollegeBoard for an alternate test date? Has CB been receptive for this request? Any other suggestions???? She wants to take SAT I at least once before she finishes her Junior year and want to keep the October date as her alternate. Any ideas, suggestions etc. will be very helpful. (She was not able to take in January and March because of some competitions).

I am pretty sure their only accommodation is for religion-related conflicts, for which they schedule specific dates for those who can prove the conflict. A general schedule conflict, they don't accommodate. It's up to you to schedule your activities with the test dates in mind.

Another option might be taking the ACT, which is offered on different dates than the SAT: www.act.org. It's a better test anyway. More straight-forward.

The CB won't test her on alternate dates, because it is a standarized test. If there is any possible way to cancel the travel, that is what I would do, no matter how important it was. A junior myself, I wouldn't want to head into October of senior year without SAT scores. At that point, she would have to risk not taking any SAT IIs in case she doesn't score as high as she needs in October. In October she might get a hard vocab section or be sick or tired and need to re-take.

SAT and ACT have sunday testing for religious reasons only - the test is usually the day after the saturday testing.

If she has not taken the SAT before I agree it is not a good idea to wait and take it the 1st time in October as a senior. In the end it is up to you (& her) to weigh the importance of taking the SAT and scoring well enough and in a timely fashion for college applications against the importance of whatever the travel is for. As a previous poster said you could look into her taking the test at the location she is travelling to.

Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions. We are looking into getting her to take the SATs in the place she is travelling. Unfortunately, one of the trips she will be taking is to Europe. I don't know how we can get around that issue. Please keep your suggestions coming as it will help us a lot in trying to resolve this issue.

Okay, I am going to make a suggestion, your D needs to look at her priorities and so does whomever these competitions are for, she has already missed a few chances to take the test because of "competitions", and now its because of trips...something has to give, and whoever is organizing these trips and stuff does not seem to have the interest of the kids in mind

I mean, how likely and practical is it to have two competitions on SAT days for High School Juniorsm with other weekends, Sundays, etc available

As a family, you can't expect big organizations to adjust to you, you need to seriously consider priorities, and seems the SAT really wasn't one

Sounds harsh, but it needs to be said, and I don't care what the competitions were, we are talking about 4 years of your D life and college choices, and a limited number of test days

What is this trip for? Why can't the trip be changed, or the competitions.

Parents need to step up and say, this day is a major test day, and my D will NOT be at the competition until after 1pm, get over it
