It may be too late as I’ve applied nearly two months ago at this point… But last year I received a B+ (0.05% shy of an A-) in my IB Math SL class, and it is the only thing below an A I have ever received.
Would it be beneficial to explain this grade? Or pathetic?

They’ve seen it, they may have already made their decision based on it. It’s out of your hands. Contacting them about it sounds whiny and obsessive. Move on and go do something fun with the rest of your high school career!
That is not likely to affect the decision. It is true that top schools don’t like to see a downward slope, but I don’t think that in any way constitutes as a downward slope. Good luck!
