hey, so i've been a good student throughout high school, real competitive course loads with all A's and 2 B's. I accelerated in math early on, taking calc AB and BC my freshman year.

So this past fall i took my 3rd mathematics course at a local university and got a C. It was a college senior honors level math class probably intended for math majors, not engineers (which I am applying for).

so, assuming that i explain it well somewhere, how will this affect my chances?

well, should i put an explanation in the additional information section?

something that identifies it as a fourth year honors level class, saying maybe it was too advanced for me and that i haven't encountered a class of that difficulty before. maybe claim that it doesn't indicate my ability to learn at the college level, because i got A's in my other 2 previous college math classes (2nd and 3rd year classes).

anything else i should say? or that i should.. not say?

i was also considering making a joke out of it sort of?

i'm not sure if it's a good idea

but, my high school math teachers all told me that math majors do good in the course i was in, whlie engineers don't (i applied for engineering)

so what if i say like "well... my performance in the class shows my potential to be an amazing engineer" or something like that

or maybe i'm stressing way too much about something i can't really control now and i should just forget about it and move on with my life/applications

Kudos to you for challenging yourself. In hindsight, if I were you I would have withdrawn from the class once you realized it was too advanced for you.

Definitely make a note about it. I don't think it will hurt your chances much.
