No, I don’t think so. Most likely, no one’s ever going to find out if you have one, but technically, I believe it’s against the rules. They’re trying to promote their silly “microfridge”, the combo microwave and refrigerator, which IS allowed in dorm rooms, probably because they make some profit off of it.
Bingo! If the professor himself is the author of the textbook, then of course he will insist that you get the current version. But I’d imagine that most others will let you fly with any, but yes–it’s best to confirm that. In your ucla email, you can access the directory of faculty email addresses, so it’s worth a shot, but needless to say, don’t expect any reply from them. So, hey–why the heck not?–just get an older version for everything. The only reason newer versions come out is for the author’s personal gain. (again, needless to say)</p>
