I've been researching Kenyon online, and it has definitely caught my interest, so I have a few questions. Not in terms of prestige, but in terms of actual academic/ overall quality, is Kenyon considered on the caliber of Williams, Amherst, Swat, Pomona, etc? And also... does its completely geographically isolated location act as a detriment to the experience? Thanks for any opinions!

Tough questions to answer. I suppose there will be those who will point out that Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, & Pomona are higher in most rankings. True enough for what it's worth. I tend to think though that when it comes to the top 30-40 liberal arts schools in the country that the differences in terms of academics from college to college are going to be very small. It will depend on what one wants to study, what learning environment one desires, etc.

Will the remote location be a detriment? That totally depends on what you want and expect. I don't think it really impacts the classroom any. Some young people will love the idea of a beautiful campus in a rural setting, others won't.

Thanks, Dennis... I would enjoy a rural environment, but only if there's a vibrant campus life in the college itself. Is there a lot going on on the Kenyon campus? Also... what are Kenyon's strongest academic departments? Thanks!

My son seems to have no shortage of things to do. As I've said elsewhere, he's not a drinker yet has plenty of friends and fun. Having a car or a friend with a car can be a plus, but not a necessity. But I suppose some will prefer a larger school and/or a less out of the way location.

As to academics depts., of course English and the humanities and social sciences (esp. poly sci) are excellent. Biology is reputed to be strong.
