A few questions about pre-pharm...

Is it a bachelors' degree?

What are the best schools to take pre-pharm at?

It depends on if you go to a 6 year program or 4+4 program. In most 6 year programs you just get your PharmD. University of South Carolina just added a Bachelors of Pharmaceutical sciences after 4 years. This is after you get accepted to their PharmD program in your sophomore year.

Interesting. Thanks!

Are you a UW-Madison fan?

@gobadgers2

Yes, I am.

Well, then consider UW-Madison for your pre-pharm coursework and Pharm.D.! It is a highly rated program.

Thanks…so follow-up question…would the pre-med there not entail a bachelor’s degree then?

Wait- are you asking about pre-pharm (bachelor degree not required, but about 60% of UW School of Pharmacy pharm.d. students do have a bachelor degree prior to admission), or pre-med?

Sorry, I meant pre-pharm, I had just read an article on pre-med so it was on my mind. Yes, so does UW’s pre-pharm program entail a Bachelors Degree?

Nope-you do not HAVE to have a Bachelor degree but about 60% do. Read more under Admissions on pharmacy.wisc.edu. You need 68 specific credits of prereqs. AP exam score can also factor in (i.e. don’t have to take calculus if you get credit for it through your AP Calc AB or BC score).

I would like to have a bachelors degree as well as a pharmD. What would that bachelors degree that the 60% that have be?

Are you a senior at a Wisconsin high school? You could make an appointment with the UW Madison pre-school of Pharmacy advisor to get information on the program. AND - express your interest in UW and the Pharm.D. program by signing up online in January or February for the High School Discovery Day at the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy.

I’m not in-state. Thanks so much for all of your help!

You don’t have to be instate to go to the High School Discovery Day at the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy.

Interesting, I’ll look into it. Thanks so much.
