A few questions about the "Activites" page

Hi I have a few questions.

If I'm a competitive tennis player, but have conditioning and strength training geared towards tennis should that be considered part of my "tennis" time? Like I have agility classes and stuff, plus strength training where I lift weights so should I split that into time I spend doing workouts and tennis?

Also, for "Music: Instrumental", if I played both piano and violin does that fit in one thing or 2?

Same with community service, should I split it into each different organization I volunteered for?

Also if I participated in DECA, would class time in my IB Business/Management count? Or just the actual DECA events and prep for it?

If I run a tennis stringing service out of my home what should I put that down? Would that be under work? Or no?

Plus what if I don't know how much hours I'll spend for like Link Crew and other things?

Thanks in advance everyone.

For tennis: can that be considered training time? I’m not sure, but I think I would count it in this case.

In both cases, I would list the activities separately.

Did you get paid? Perhaps put it down as work along with an explanation?

Do your best to estimate? What you have done with the activity matters as much as how much time you have spent doing it.

These are just some of my suggestions. Trust your own judgment :).

Thanks for the great response! I had put down the training as part of tennis already, but I’ll have to split up the music and volunteering. I did an iffy estimate but I’ll ask seniors last year who did link crew too. For the stringing, I get paid but it’s not a regular thing. It depends on how many people ask me.

For DECA, class hours do not count. And plus, if you inflated your hours per week/weeks per year, it’d be quite obvious to adcoms, as they have read thousands of applications and have a good idea how much most students can handle.

By the way, you’re amazing for being in DECA  Just thought I’d put that out there.

Ok thanks for the info about DECA, but what about when I was working on stuff for DECA in class?

Would tutoring during a free block/study hall count toward time spent in a peer tutoring EC? I spent about 3 hours per week on this all year but it doesn’t show up on my transcript or anything. Can something that was technically done in school count as an EC?

I would count that as an EC Grape.

I would not consider in-class time as DECA time. However, if you stayed after class to complete written projects or whatnot, I would include that.

Penguins - what is an EC grape? Is this some kind of new admissions jargon?

I tried googling it but nothing relevant came up.

Lol sorry. I was talking to Grape 1. I guess I forgot the comma. Shouldve been: "I would count that as an EC, Grape.

Haha, my bad! I thought I was onto some new adcom secret lingo for a sec :D

Haha nope!

Another question: For the athletic supplement should I put down my HS coach’s name, or my private coach’s name and info? I barely talk to my HS coach other than the season but work with my private coach year round.

Shameless bump.

Anyone else?

I used my private coach for the athletic supplement info.

One of my teammates asked the same question to an adcom from Pton, and that’s what the adcom suggested (given that you are more involved with your private coach).

I would agree with everything Calico said. As for the coach question, I would put the Private Coach, as he/she knows you better and can attest to your skills as opposed to the high school coach.

Alright I’ll use my private coach. That’s who I wanted to put down anyways!
