Hello. I am a high school senior from new jersey. I have narrowed down my college choices to Florida Institute of Technology and Villanova University, both of which I have been accepted too. If I went to Florida Tech I would want to double major in Psychology (with a concentration in Forensic Psychology) and business administration/IT management. If i went to Villanova i would double major in Psychology and Criminology. I know FIT is a heavy engineering school so I was wondering what it is like to have a non-engineering or non “tech” degree from FIT. Are the classes very small or average sized? IS the degree not going to be well regarded or helpful later in life? Is it worthless because I went to a “Tech” school. I visited the campus and I really liked all the people and teachers that I spoke to. I loved the campus and the area is nice. I also have a few more questions. How are the professors there? Specifically in the business and psychology departments? How well regarded are these departments? I would love to live in Florida when I get older so that is why I think FIT might be the better choice. I also like the social atmosphere at FIT better than that of Villanova; however, I may like Villanova more academically and because I have been told it is the “better” school. Finally. I also may want to transfer (no matter which school I end up at) to University of California - Irvine (UCI) or perhaps the as they have a top notch psychology and Criminology department and majors another school I would think about would be the University of Miami. Would it be more difficult for me to transfer from FIT than from Villanova? I just want to know what it is like to not be a tech or engineering major at FIT.
I’d think a little more about what you want to do. If your plan is to transfer, stay in New Jersey and go to a community college. Going to a university for 2 years won’t give you an advantage when transferring. If you’re going to stay all 4 years at Villanova or Florida Tech, go wherever you like best. Florida Tech is just a name. People know “tech” schools aren’t only limited to engineering and technology anymore.
