A few quick questions =]

hey, i just have a couple of questions about USD and it would be insanely helpful if someone could answer them, or even one! I paster them on another thread, ‘‘Your reasoning for choosing USD’’, but i thought maybe people would see it here and maybe actually answer lol

How far is the school from the the centre of San Diego, and would be easy to commute back and forth if we have a job?

Is it even possible to find a job, like working at a shop or something as a freshman student in SD? haha sorry if this sounds silly, ive only had internships before and not in san diego, but i want to make some cash during the yr for myself when at college.

Out of the freshman dorms, ive heard Maher and Missions A&B are the best, but whats wrong with founders|camino, apart from the seperation of guys and girls? And whats the best dorm to you?

I dont really understand the intersession classes in january and october for 2 weeks- what are they? Do we go these classes or not?

Roommate wise, would you advise i seriously look on facebook and try to join with someone that way, or just let it be random, or is there a type of questionaire we fill out?

okay okay thats all my questions!!! Im sorry im asking all of them haha but i really would like to know all this kind of stuff before i send in my deposit, and im still debating between schools, but USD is still my first choice!
Even if you can answer only one, it would be incredibly helpful!
Thank youuu! =]

its not far from downton san diego. I guess it wouldn't be too bad to commute to downtown for a job, but I probably wouldn't do it. founders and camino, of course, are all guys/girls. they have communal bathrooms and have classes and offices on the first floor. they are probably the most central dorms. there's a questionaire you fill out once you send in your acceptance of admission for roommates/housing.

I am a parent of a Freshman at USD, so will try to answer some of your questions

Not sure about jobs - you might be able to find one on campus. Fashion Valley Mall is pretty close, about 5-10 minutes away by car, and there are TONS of stores and strip malls in the vacinity. I am not that familiar with San Diego, but the few times I have been down there I have been surprised by how easy it is to get around, and how close everything is. The airport was like a 10 minute easy drive from the campus.

Dorms - it seems as if where ever people end up, they end up loving, and think their dorm is the best dorm. Daughter is in Mission B and likes it. Rooms are pretty good size, and closets are really big, but no sink in the room. She has made a lot of good friends on the floor, as well as friends who live all over campus. Maher, Camino, Founders are up on the main campus, Missions A (suite style) and B are down in the “valley” but the fitness center is right there, and there is a cafe.

Intercession - is just in January, not in October. It is 3 weeks of one class, which you can take if you want, and you have to pay for it - like $5k (you have to pay tuition and room and board). It does not seem as if a lot of Freshman take classes in January intercession. My daughter did not attend, so was home from Dec 20 until Jan 25.

Roommate wise - who knows? Not sure about finding someone on Facebook? Who knows how truthfull a stranger would be on Facebook?? They do send you a questionnaire, but it is not very in depth. Daughter had a bad experience with her roomie, but it did not spoil the year at all, she just spent her time elsewhere. It is kind of part of the experience.
