Dorms are kinda loud on weekend nights, but since there is always an RA on duty it shouldn’t be to the point where it would really disturb you if you’re out. People definitely come back to the dorms drunk and throwing up… fairly regularly. Not everyone though, there’s a decent balance between kids who go out and those who don’t. If you want to go out and get plastered, there’s the opportunity to do that, but there are kids who don’t drink/do things that are more low key. Overall, I think there’s a pretty big drinking/partying population here.

No, Marino and Squashbusters are free for NU students and Marino is open early-late. There’ll be a new gym in parcel I think, and it’ll also be free.

No. But no one plays racquetball… I’ve seen people at the squash courts in Squashbusters a lot and have some friends that play that. Don’t know of anyone who plays racquetball.

Bringing a car to campus as a freshman is a terrible idea. Unless you have a really, really good reason (something that makes it absolutely necessary to drive), do NOT bring your car. A) Parking is outrageously expensive (like $250 a month), B) driving here sucks, C) everyone will constantly ask you for rides, D) you can take transportation everywhere.

I only know a few people with cars here. Most of them commute to a good paying co-op job (thus making driving/parking worth the cost), and I have another friend who has a terminally ill family member so she drives home every weekend. Really, these are some of the very few reasons to bring a car.

I’m not the person to answer this… I’ve never been impressed with the frats, but greek scene is bigger now than it was when I was a freshman/sophomore so I don’t know. Now I can go to bars so I definitely don’t need to go to some grungy frat house and slut myself off at this point in my college career. :D

Thanks a lot for the great response. Everything sounds good to me…I can’t wait to go.

I hope it’s easy to get to Long Island and back from Boston because $250 a month to park definitely isn’t worth it.

eh, pretty easy, chinatown/bolt bus to the city –> train to long island

One comment on dorms on weekend nights. It really depends on the roommates you happen to get. My roommates are insane. It’ll be 3 am on a Tuesday and they will be practically screaming (completely wasted) in the common room right next to my room, and I won’t be able to sleep. Yet I’m pretty sure that I got the short end of the stick, and most people have fine situations. I would advise to set a definite policy EARLY if you are severely against loud nights. I put up with it most of first semester, so when it finally started to really **** me off, it was too late in the year and they didn’t give a crap how many times I asked/yelled/begged them to keep it quiet.

(PS: most of my friends don’t have this situation. It really just depends on the roommates you have)
