I’m currently a freshman at Iona College (a small local college close to my house) and I plan on transferring at the end of the year. I’m trying to obtain a 3.5 or better GPA at the end of the school year and I firmly believe I can achieve that goal. I’m looking for a change of scenery.
I'm an accounting major and am looking for a good accounting school.
I want to attend a relatively big school around 10,000+.
Good sports programs is a plus.
I plan on pledging a fraternity.
I prefer to be in warm weather but it's not a top priority.
Money isn't necessarily an issue
If you guys can list some schools that fit my specifications that would be great.
Unless your parents can tell you that they can easily shell out $60k or more each year, then yes, money is an issue. We’d be wasting our time and yours if we recommended a bunch of places that your family can’t afford.
Are you in-state for the SUNYs? If so, which did you apply to last year, and if you were accepted, why didn’t you choose them over Iona?
If you say money isn’t an issue, I will take you at your word. If you are local, and your family lives in New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, money is probably not an issue. If they paid for a year at Iona they can probably afford to pay for a different school. We can’t possibly know better than you! But you need to provide more information if you want people to provide useful suggestions. What were your high school credentials-they will still count.
You need to do a little more research on your own, as re transfer policies at specific colleges. Some major public universities (which would seem like logical destinations for you) only accept junior transfers. If some of the regulars on this site can’t give you immediate information, you should check out the policies at UCF, USF, Clemson, Auburn, College of Charleston, Ole Miss, Alabama, et al ASAP.
My family can provide sending me to any school that I want to attend. And I’m technically a second semester freshman now because I took the second semester of my actual freshman year at Providence College off and I don’t plan on going back.
For Accounting, it’s hard to top Baruch in your region, but it’s not the right place for someone who wants parties/fraternities.
SUNY Albany would be a logical destination if you’re interested in an AACSB accredited school that isn’t tooo rigorous and has plenty of partying.
If you want warmer climes, UNC-W, NCSU, USC (Carolina), UAlabama, FSU, USF (Florida) would all fit what you want.
^^^ I would also add FAU to the above. A very decent accounting program and fairly easy to get into. In addition to CUNY-Baruch, I have heard good things about CUNY-Brooklyn College (Accounty Program). Like Baruch, it is predominantly a commuter school.
OP, what were your grades like at Providence for your first semester? Why did you transfer to Iona?
Look into the University of Arizona for a sold combination of sports, well recruited accounting, warm weather, a large student population, and Greek life. You may also be interested in the following:
-Texas Christian University
University of Georgia (Athens can get cold but it’s better than the suburbs of NYC)
College of Charleston (lacks big sports)
-University of Oklahoma (fits all of your criteria except for the weather. If you’re interested in the school I can answer any questions)
-Miami University of Ohio (lacks big sports and warm weather)
-University of Oregon (lacks warm weather)
-University of Washington (lacks warm weather. Reach. Great option because of its Seattle based location)
I transferred out of Providence because I was partying too much and realized that I wasting my parents money. So, I’m attending a local college for maturity reasons. I had a 2.3 at Providence but currently have a 3.5+ at Iona College.

beautiful campus, truly an up an coming university. they will soon have two med schools (MD and DO…I know you want accounting…just tossed that in) awesome warm weather, 10 minutes from fort lauderdale…25 minutes from miami. safe , clean and modern and nice dorms. sports they do have but they are not going to be winning the final 4 in the near future. I have been to the school several times and I always get a great vibe.

perhaps you should avoid a school that has heavy greek presence and or not join a frat.
