Iona College in New York- info please!!

So recently Iona College has been sending me emails because they want me to apply early seeing as how they believe I will qualify for a lot of scholarships. Is Iona College a good school? What are your personal experiences there? How is the financial aid? Is it easy to get in? (Stats, etc). How did you enjoy the school? Any other info would be great!

Bump

Have you checked their Common Data Set? That will give you an idea of what kind of students they accept (test scores, GPA, etc). Run their Net Price Calculator to get an idea what it might cost you. (However, if your parents are divorced or own a business, the NPC may not be accurate.) Many schools list merit awards on their website. If you qualify for any based on your test scores, you should be able to find them there. You can also search College Confidential to see if anyone else has posted info. about Iona.

Thanks! I’ve looked around so I have a general idea but I wanted to hear the POV from a student at Iona haha @austinmshauri

If you are interested in smaller Catholic schools in the Northeast there are much much better options than Iona. Much.

It all boils down to financial aid. What schools did you have in mind? @BatesParents2019

Scranton, Farfield, Siena, Le Moyne, St. Bonaventure, Canisius, St. Michael’s, St. Anselm. St. Joseph’s and Manhattan College.

You will have to run the calculators.

Iona College was mostly a commuter school that has been trying very hard to improve the quality of their student body. To that end they have been building dorms like crazy. They have a locally pretty well respected undergrad business program. In 2013 Forbes put them on their list of top colleges for whatever that is worth.

It is very easy to get Into with a 92.1% acceptance rate and at $32,770 a year is way more expensive than the SUNY’s. The six year graduation rate is 63%. The Post-Graduation Median Salary: $45,500. (Keep in mind that this number is highly influence by popular majors.) Students will be mostly from in state. I don’t know why anyone goes there unless you really want a Catholic school for some reason.

@HSstudent2016, Are you a NYS resident? The SUNYs are good, affordable schools for state residents. What are your SAT/ACT scores and GPA? If you let us know what your major/career goal is and how much your parents can pay, we can suggest some schools that may be affordable for you.

OP, you shouldn’t be fooled by solicitations you receive in the mail from schools such as Iona College. A lot of colleges do this to inflate their acceptance rate and improve the ranking. There are much better options (cost/quality) available to you such at SUNY, CUNY and some limited private institutions.

I have the same concerns/question as it relates to a lot of colleges high school students apply to each year. On the surface, it appears that students are driven by the need to “go away” to college at all cost, even if it means taking on a lot of debt or changing their major multiple times. Of even more concern, is the sheer number of college students who are taking six or more years to obtain the undergraduate degree. If the 92.1% acceptance rate quote by @mathmom is true, then Iona College accepts anyone with a pulse, putting them in the same category of many “For-Profit” Colleges. No surprise they have falsified their college data (student performance data) for so many years, in an effort to attract more students to the College.

The data was falsified by a particular provost who was then fired in 2011 when it was discovered.
