My son has been accepted at Iona College and received a very good merit scholarship. We are from Massachusetts and have not visited yet. I need honest opinions on all aspects of the college, academics, resident life, is it a commuter or suitcase school? How is the area around the campus? How is the faculty? And student services? Any insight would be greatly appreciate.
If you want a honest opinion it would be among the least appealing schools in the area. It would be most comparable to Manhattan College, Marist, Siena or La Salle but not nearly as good overall. I wouldnt call it purely a commuter school but it certainly is not a residential school.
Compared to NE schools, it would not be in the same league as Stonehill, Quinnipiac, St. Anselm or St. Michael’s.
What do you estimate as the best case net cost?
I would chose La Salle over Iona any day, but they are comparable.
Marist has a much lower acceptance rate, so I wouldn’t compare it with Iona.
Financial aid services aren’t great.
The location isn’t ideal, although it’s not far from NYC.
I live in the area and i personally like it. Right outside of Westchester and NYC. It’s mostly a commuter school and has a rep for accepting a lot of people and being very generous with scholarships like other schools in the area such as Pace and Manhattan. Overall, the academics aren’t top but I’ve heard from older friends that the business/accounting program is very good!
a20171, New Rochelle is in Westchester not outside of it. You don’t know what county you live in? It is about 45 minutes from Broadway and it does have restaurants and all.
