ok to help clear the anxiety of the new school year coming i thought i would come up with an interesting discussion to start it off

Do you believe in alien life?
If so when do you think first contact will occur?
Do you think within the next fifty years interstellar travel will be possible?

Do you believe in alien life?
Maybe. I haven't quite decided.
If so when do you think first contact will occur?
In a couple hundred years maybe.
Do you think within the next fifty years interstellar travel will be possible?
Probably not, but who knows.

I would just like to add on a side note, this is a very good topic that has taken my mind totally off of the upcoming school year. You must be very smart RWC0613. You must have millions of dollars and a nice car and house. If you don't then you should think about going to Capitol Hill and begging them for that stuff to compliment your great brain. SDMS12, you are by far the rudest person I have ever encountered. RWC0613 went out of his way to try to make you feel less worried about the upcoming school year. I am ashamed to even have your name in my post. SDMS12.......... :( :( :(

Alien life: yes. Why not? How many billions of billions of planets are there?
First contact: why would they contact us?
Interstellar travel: no, unless we've got some crazy stargate program going on that we don't know about.

of course aliens exist.. the recipe for life is a set of circumstances (stable atmosphere & temperature, existence of water, an energy source like a star).. and how is it possible that this simple set of circumstances has only occurred ONCE in the entire universe?

little green men with super laser guns? probably not.. but anything from a single-celled organism to an alien bug to a humanoid is conceivable.

Wellll, I'm a Creationist so yeah. XD The Big Bang theory just doesn't do it for me.

There are definately aliens. For all we know, there are other humans in another solar system. We really don't know what's out there and chances are there are more life if the univese goes to infinity.

The probability of aliens are quite high - there are more galaxies in the universe than there are people on this planet. And considering that there are billions of stars per galaxy... yeah, do the math. It's the power of statistics - even if the odds of life are very tiny, the fact that there are so many "chances" of it that there's life elsewhere. The question, of course, is whether we'll ever see or communicate with any of them.

Again, refer to the link for a little more details. It is a fascinating topic.
