The Future

In the past week I've seen videos about scientific projects for the future, and to me they seem crazy, but they're backed by scientists, so who know. I just wanted to share these two projects that I saw, and get peoples opinions on them. I'll share the links for youtube videos on them that provide short descriptions, but you can also google them to get more info.

Mars-One (establishing a permanent colony on Mars, funded partially through a reality TV show that could start as soon as next year).
'Mars One' - Human settlement of Mars in 2023 - YouTube

Global 2045 (using cybernetics to establish trans-humanism essentially allowing us to live for an indefinite amount of time)
2045: A New Era for Humanity - YouTube

Both studies seem to have a lot of scientific backing, so while they seem unreal, maybe it's possible?
I don't know though, what do you guys think?

I highly doubt that either will happen by then. Heck, people in 1910 thought we’d be living on the moon by now, and that definitely hasn’t happened. Also 2023 is only 11 years from now. No way thats happening. I’m also skeptical on the 2045 one because its just going to take much longer for things like indefinite living. I don’t think it’ll happen in our lifetime.

No flying cars?

I think the mars thing will happen in our lifetime, but (despite how great that’d be) I don’t see the idea of living indefinitely under the yellow sun happening.

Oh and even if living forever was possible, I doubt the government would allow it. Imagine the overpopulation issue. Even if it happened, we probably wouldnt be able to reproduce anymore.

People could go to Mars…

I think it’s just really hard to predict what the future will be like. When I talk with my grandparents they always say how shocked they were by simple things like cell phones, and the Moon Landing (RIP Neil), and stem cell research, ect.

We take a lot of things for granted now, that 25, or 50 years ago were almost inconceivable. For the Mars Colony to happen, the biggest issue is money. They already have the technology.

Even if we send them to Mars we still face the problem of lack of resources which is already becoming a problem as it is

The idea of living on Mars reminds me of the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury.

^Except they lived on Venus.

But if we send people to Mars we have to deal with the whole Martian issue. I mean some of them are friendly (Ie Martian Manhunter) but others… (War of the Worlds anyone?) :D

i think humanity might die before any of that cool stuff happens. it sounds so amazing though - living on mars, much longer lives. we’ll see i guess.
