So on my senior year I failed English 9A and I got a 'd' for english 9B, does this mean that by my senior year I only took 3 english classes because my 9th grade english class don't count? Pleae reply! also what can I do to make up for that class?

I think your guidance counselor will have the best answer.

Yeah it does. Like dblazer said, talk to your counselor. I’m assuming you’re a sophomore or junior based on your username (1995), so you can probably take it at community college (Or summer school if your school has it) over the summer.

It depends on what you mean by A-G requirements.

In terms of graduating from a California public high school, you must pass all four years of English in order to receive a diploma. That includes both semesters. You do not receive credit for failed courses, but you do receive credit for D grades and above. Since you failed English 9A, you must retake it at some point either in high school, summer school, or adult school. Another option is taking English at a community college (compared to HS, it’s harder obviously), which should make up for any year you failed or didn’t take. If you plan on doing that, you should speak to your counselor as transferring community college units to HS credit is tricky.

In terms of applying to colleges such as the UC and Cal-State system, you usually must earn a C or better in required courses in order to be eligible for admission. Therefore, you would need to make-up both English 9A and 9B. The options mentioned previously also apply in this scenario.

I’m assuming you meant you took English 9AB in freshman year rather than as a senior. If you took English 9A senior year and failed it, you had better find a way to make up the credit for it before the year ends or you will not graduate.
