A girl got a 5.898 GPA and isn't allowed to be valedictorian!

I thought this sucks. A girl in Texas is going to graduate early, got a 5.898 GPA, got a perfect SAT, and is the holder of the highest GPA in the school's history. Nevertheless, she isn't going to be valedictorian because she is graduating a year early. The school is taking the policy too literally when it comes to saying that the valedictorian status is only for 4 year students. I know I would be disappointed.

because being valedictorian in the grand scheme of life is oh so important.

A 5.898, how is that even possible? AP courses only award 1.0 extra grade point.

ya im sure shes gonna be juuuuuuuuuuust fine

who cares? lol =P its just val

No valedictorian? She's DONE.

being valedictorian may not be the most important thing in the world, but I think it's more of the principle of the thing and the fact that the valedictorian gets money for school...it sucks

I'm wondering the same thing...I thought the MAX you could get with AP credit is a 5.0.

Well the reason why they're angry is because for that school the Valevictorian gets a scholarship for the first year of college. That's pretty damn good.

They're giving her a title called Valevictorian 3-year. But it gives no scholarship. =[

everything is bigger in texas.

sucks about the scholarship though

i hate overachievers

lol organicegreentea, but she technically isn't "class of 08" anyhow.

but i too thought 5.00 would be the highest gpa possible..?

5.0 for honors, 6.0 for AP maybe? Still, that's pretty ridiculous they won't her be val if it hurts her scholarship opportunities.

Simple logic and mathematics don't apply to Texas, it's how they elected George Bush governor, and it's what makes it possible to achieve over a 5.0

Grade inflation ftl.

it's probably standard out of 5. and then ap/honors can get you a 6.

so its equivalent to a 4.898

anyways, i dont feel the least bit sorry for her. if she wants the money she can stay an extra year and take classes at cc while taking random hs classes. its really still up to her.

I think it's the fact that you've worked your ass off yet you don't get the goal you may of wanted.

So what, she wants to become valedictorian. I say there is no shame in wanting that, maybe it's a bit different from what we and other people may want, but it's still a goal nonetheless.

We all know someone who has a life goal to NOT ever work very hard and enjoy himself/herself at every possible opportunity. Yeah, maybe I don't agree with their goal and may look down on him/her because of it... but it's still a goal.

If they manage to achieve, no matter how seemingly pointless it is, then I say good for them. It's something.

I really hope she finds a way to make it. It's people like her that raise the bar. But then again... someone has to. I just hope she's balanced! =P

@ poppin: haha...great comment

i read that some schools give an extra 5.0 for an A in a honors course and a 6.0 for an A in an AP class.... that's ridiculous....nevertheless she did well.... valedictorian isn't everything, but yeah it sucks about the scholarship. at my hs, the number two guy was valedictorian

@ vrlobo88, how?

I wonder if she's ever done anything outside academics.
