I really really want to attend rice and stanford but am afraid my GPA wont let me so i am applying to tech for safety but i want to make sure that i can get in. I have been passionate about everything that I have done in high school and will try my best to let that show on my essays. I had a heart transplant when I was very young and during sophomore year I got very very sick because of it including family troubles to top that off.
PLease tell me my chances!! Will chance back

Is TTU a good school? How would you describe your overall experience there? and how would you rate on a scal of 0-10 ten being the best possible experience. I am really considering this school and want to go kinda far from home in CA and I know that I wont be able to get into caltech so this is the next best thing.

You’re in. The obnoxious kid who sits behind me in Psychology was telling everyone that he got into Tech with a 1500 SAT. And I’m certain that he hasn’t founded a nonprofit or designed a foreign metropolis.

Are you sure that’s really where you want to go? I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. I live in Texas, and here it’s known as a party school for people who didn’t make UT. Also, Texas is the worst. If I were you, with those stats, I’d go for somewhere on the East Coast or Chicago, maybe NYU or UNC or something, or a state school in Cali like UCB or USC. Just a thought.

honestly, u have a great chance at rice. Your GPA might be on the low end of their applicant pool, but ur AP, SAT, and SAT subject test scores make up for that. It still shows that u are smart enough to score such stellar numbers. You have a legitimate reason for the GPA issue so don’t worry about it. Just talk to your admission counselor personally and mention it in your application. On the other hand, essays are the most important part of the application and sometimes can cost your admission. They care more about the personality and your motivation for success than the stats.

Tech is a good school but with your stats, I think UT is a great place for you. UT is a large school though, but there are so many honors programs and great research opportunities. Only thing is that it does rank its undergrads and their students are really competitive, so if you don’t like that atmosphere, then Tech probably would be best.

Do apply to Rice if that is a school you really want to go to. You have a good chance of getting in.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your possible major?
UT and Texas A&M have a really good engineering programs. Baylor has a good medical science program. Tech has a good health science program.

It’s a matter of opinion, but I vigorously disagree with the sentiment that “Texas is the worst.”

My DD attends UNC. It took absolutely stellar stats to get in from OOS. It’s possible that the OP can explain the GPA, but I sure wouldn’t count on it. My DD has loved her experience at UNC (she is a senior), but is incredibly homesick for Texas. She hopes to live and work here after she gets her PhD, so she would also disagree that Texas “is the worst.”

The only thing I absolutely hate about Texas is the heat during the late summer. That truly does suck.
