Everybody - The URL for the Honors Voice (a weekly newsletter for current honors students) on the Tech Honors College website is:
http://www.honr.ttu.edu/Voice/ Try it, you'll like it.

I am a student at the TTU honors college and I think it is a good experience. But rember that most of your classes are not honors. SO only go if you like the deparment of your major. But if you go to Tech, do the honors college.

To explain a bit more. The honors seminars are very cool, great professors and fun students. We have current event discussions every wednesday and the honors college allows you to have a fellowshio in undergraduate research and do a unique senior thesis.

lookinf4achool - Thanks so much for adding your "been there, done that" comments! There is no better source than a current student in the Honors College like yourself. Please add your perspective again whenever the mood strikes.

how do you go about obtaining your undergraduate reaseach? is it organized or self directed?

rty456 - The student works with a professor on his/her undergraduate research. There is an application process described briefly in the following link on the Honor's College website:

http://www.honr.ttu.edu/urf/info.html

Also, there are several other articles concerning student research on the Honor's College website including examples of current student projects.

It really depends on what type of research you want to do. SOme departments are well aquainted with the honors undergrad research and others have never heard of it and consider it a bit of a bother. If you are looking into the sciences there are really great opportunities. Somewhere the college used to have a list of the departments students were researching in. If you can find that you will know where it is most likely to get a spot as a researcher.

Time for the monthly boost until the end of the application season.

lookinf4aschool - Best of luck in your transfer applications! You have chosen some excellent schools. I was a transfer student once myself so I can empathize.

I appreciate you sharing your insights about Tech's Honors College as well as other topics. There is no better perspective than one of a current student. Your willingness to share your experience with other potential students speaks very highly of you as a person.

Any input from kids after the first smester at Tech
