A Great Super Score Dilemma xD

Hi there!

How would you look at these scores? What would you take out of them?

January 2010: Reading: 770 Writing: 700 Math: 740 -- 2210
June 2010: Reading: 670 Writing: 710 Math: 740 -- 2120

Superscore: 2220

My Reading score went down 100 points, while my Writing score went up 10 points.

If I were to apply with these scores, would my second testing negatively or positively effect me? Please offer some explanation as to why you think so!

a) To schools that take super score?
b) To schools that dont take superscore but look at highest per sitting?
c) Uhh do some schools take every sitting?

After all we are all human right?

Thanks so much!

Realistically, 10 points is negligible. Because your reading score is so low your second time around i would not send that score in, even if it’s being superscored. So basically:

a) Send first score.
b) Send first score.
c) To schools that require every sitting, you must send both.

Thanks! Most schools require sending all SAT scores, so would you suggest taking it a third time if I can improve my score?

Anyone have additional input on this issue?

Yeah June SAT CR was a killer, I only scored a 710 and I was upset too. But anyways…to schools that don’t need all scores don’t send your first score, as markzillyway said a 10 point rise isn’t worth showing schools a 100 point drop in CR. To schools that ask for all scores they will see your 100 point drop in CR which may hurt, but they probably will be more inclined to look at you best overall scores.
In regards to taking it a third time, if you had a 90 point drop in score on your second attempt, how sure can you be that your score will go up further the third time? The only score that would validate a third attempt, is if your CR was at least a 750, and your Math and Writing went up by at least 10 points each. It’s difficult to tell if you will be able to do this, but if you are confident in your abilities you can go for it. With apps, school, and major changes that come with senior year, you also have to consider whether you will have the time to practice and improve your score. A caveat with taking it a third time, is that colleges may think you are too focused/obsessed on testing, because they very well may see all three attempts, but if their is a significant improvement you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks runi27!

haha how much will it hurt? Will it be like getting a 2120 for a final score, since it is the most recent one test date?

Any additional input is greatly appreciated!

Few schools actually require sending in all scores.

unfortunately, most of the schools I am applying to ask for all SAT scores T_T’

how much will this 90 point decrease hurt? any additional input is appreciated again!

Dont worry, colleges will know that you aren’t some stupid kid. You probably messed up, it happens and they wont put too much thought into it, definitely less than you are putting into it.

Colleges won’t care that your CR went down 100 points. They will only look at your highest score in each section - your superscore. You did very well. You are a stud - go forth and take your reward.
