Check this out: YouTube - A Heartfelt Plea for MIT

It has just been 19 hours since uploading time and this video is almost going viral. This applicant was waitlisted by MIT on March 14th 2011 (Pi Day). This is his attempt to get off the wait list.

I have seen a couple of students singing on YouTube to get into universities but this is different. This applicant not only shows an interest in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) but also shows his talent, his extracurricular activities and why he should actually get in. When I looked at this video, I was impressed. To accomplish so much at such a young age makes this applicant special. I wish him best of luck and hope MIT actually admits him off the waitlist.

sorry to break it to you (although given the overlap between the 2 videos, you probably already know) but it has been done before =>not original.

Also, it would be good for your mental health if you stopped referring to yourself in the third-person.

Just saying.
Either way, a strong demonstration of effort and desire.Good luck with the waitlist.

meh. I admire all those who have the drive and sincerity to make these videos, but honestly the one last year was a lot more original and creative, in my opinion.

Both vids are great :). The competition was really high this year. @tasinari I know the guy who made the video. Its definitely not the same person as the original poster. Just saying :). Anyways, good luck to all who have been waitlisted.

Just saw this video for the Waitlist 2015. More original and different for RRT+MIT and the animation is mindblowing.

lol “Just saw this video”? More like " just posted this video"! How dumb do you think people are? You’re join date is right under your account name on every post!

Really who thought the : “look I just found a really great video of some kid who wants to get off the MIT WL and I am going to promote it on CC but by sheer coincidence my join date is the day that video was posted” model was worth a try? Stop trying to promote them. I mean, the fact that the first try didn’t work means that doing it a second time (ehhmm… I’m looking at you, gutsyninja) is just pathetic.

Besides, the more videos people make, the less original it becomes.
RRT+MIT got him off the WL because it was the first of its kind. Now the admissions office has seen the massive overlap between RRT+MIT and MITlover15 and its a little obvious were the latter’s idea came from. It’s a rehash of a one time solution.

“Mindblowing?”
Now that I have actually taken the time to see it, this video (maiden mind) is worse than the others. The idea is mediocre at best and the audio is awful. It’s not funny , but rather disconnected and poorly sung.

Please do not send that in, if you haven’t already done so yet. I don’t want to be too unkind here but…yeah.

Honestly, I feel like with the RRT video last year, some WL’ers are getting the idea that if you make a video, then it’s like the right thing to do and it will significantly affect your chances of admission. However, how I feel is that unless it is actually REALLY well done, you are really just shooting yourself in the foot and the video will just come across as a move of desperation. For example, if you look at OP’s video and go through the video poster’s account, I cannot see anything but egotism in the other videos. If I were the admission officer, actually seeing that video (which isn’t particularly well done) and the associated videos would just give me a negative view of this applicant, which is probably an inadvertent and unexpected consequence on the part of the applicant.

Remember, this is MIT that you guys are all applying to - these admission officers have seen all kinds of wacky and wickedly cool things, given the thousands and thousands of applications they read every year. Although a sincere expression of your desire to attend is probably appreciated, putting together something that doesn’t immediately blow one’s mind away would probably not be looked upon favorably, but even cause slight negative repercussions. Just something to think about…

(especially if you are also a waitlistee opening up iMovie HD right now after being “inspired” by these videos)

^ The egotism point is spot-on. Acting as though it was a mistake to put you on the waitlist because you clearly deserve a spot at MIT is not the way to endear yourself to the Admissions committee.

(See also, “deserving to get in” is just a broken concept.)
