40 hours a week as in 8 hours a day in a normal working environment?!

Dude, your EC hours and these work hours have to add up. If i was the admission officer, id be pretty suspicious right now.

what school has FBLA and DECA?
From what I understood, schools were only allowed to have one or the other...

I'm pretty sure my school has FBLA and DECA. We have IB Business, so I'm pretty sure that helps? I don't know.

Well, according to your AMAZING EC's, I won't doubt any of the schools on your list except maybe MIT. Their admissions officers are TOUGH. Good luck!

there are 168 hours each week, I have only two hours of free time each day for my ecs or hanging out during the week days, then I go to work any one of my dad's businesses from 6 to 11 on school nights and 6 AM to 4 PM on weekends. I only get about 4 hours of sleep everyday from 12 to 4 and once I get up, I have until 8 to get all of hw done. Just because you guys take time for granted doesn't mean I waste it also. So please, before offending or doubting anyone, think before you speak.

P.S.
There are millions of schools out there that has both DECA and FBLA, and in a school like mine, where it is ranked 2nd in the state only to a magnet school, we have hundreds of kids that are participating in both clubs.

^ Dang. Take time for granted? Nah, we take our time getting some REM-state sleep (just read an article in the New Scientist magazine about Rapid Eye Movement in sleep, so I had to mention it) as to have a functioning brain the next day. No one was trying to offend you, but were merely pointing out that it is unusual and suspicious to work 40 hours a week, but if it's true, then I sincerely respect that and I also think that your credentials are exceptionally good.

I normally do not scrutinize people on posts like these...but honestly...if you are president of EIGHT clubs, working 40 hours a week, and going to school, most admissions officers are going to assume that you are not very dedicated to any of your clubs and are just trying to make a laudry list of meaningless activies. Just my two cents, though.

^ are you an admission officer? if not, don't talk for them, I did not post a thread for you all to chew me out for working extremely hard. If admission officers are going to doubt me for my dedication and time-management, then this is a ****ed up country.

P/S
I am not sure what your problem is, but if you are going to criticize me because I work hard to the point where my hours don't seem to "add up," please find a hobby or a video game to play instead of offending people. thank you

I.M. Handsome seriously take it easy...you asked for opinions and you got it. Not everyone is gonna kiss your egotistical butt talking about how hard you supposedly work.

IMHandsome you gotta calm down you asked for others' opinions and you got it. Some people will say things you want to hear, while others won't. To be honest, I think Janelle has the most accurate response. If you have that many ECS the admissions people will be suspicious and look into it, even if you are really that much devoted to your ECS...

Well, I’m on both sides of the issue here. It’s true that IMHandsome has an unbelievable amount of work (which is personally amazing to me), but some people could achieve it, I think. Unfortunately, I’m not fortunate enough to be one of them. However, maybe you can listen to Janelle’s advice from another pov, Handsome? I think she just meant for you to cut off a bit of your activities to seem a little more human and a little less intimidating.

Anyway, I think we should just stop arguing over the validity. Case in point, you have great chances (assuming, which I already am, that your EC's are valid) at your selections. Agreed?

"are you an admission officer? if not, don't talk for them"
You asked for chances, which obviously only admissions officers deal with. So if you did not want what posters to speculate on what an admissions officer would say, don't ask for your chances.

"I did not post a thread for you all to chew me out for working extremely hard."
My post was not mean to "chew you out". I was giving you my honest opinion, which is what I thought you were asking for. If you just wanted compliments, then fine. Your ECs are amazing and probably the best in the whole entire world. I desperately wish I was you! There, happy?

Sorry for the sarcasm, but really, lighten up! ;) I was not trying to offend (I am sorry for doing so), just giving you my honest, first reaction. Surely you will end up somewhere great! =)

I asked you guys to chance me, not judge me. usually chancing goes
Penn (reach) or (match) not "egotistic" or "your hours don't add up"
I am not being egotistic, I just want what I asked for, which is, just chances at my schools, not criticisms and opinions

i would say reach for emory.
i must say, you have great time utilizing skills.
i can barely keep up with my EC's

Cornell (ED) match
MIT reach, you don't have any really significant math/ research awards, unless you're planning to enter competitions with the research you're doing now. But honestly, I have no idea how you juggle that with the rest of your schedule. I had to work for two years, around 12 hours a day during the summer for 4 months, and reading papers during the school year to get my project up to par.

The rest of the colleges I have no experience with. But the thing is, you are coming across as egotistic. Your SN, thread title, etc. all have that air. Having a tone like this in your essays will surely count against you. Maybe all that work has made you bitter and withdrawn (judging solely from your posts) and maybe that's why you're barking at every single criticism (I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I'm pretty sure I'm speaking for most of us here when I say this). You also have to look at the things other people do, not just what you, yourself has done. Simply working hard, unfortunately, isn't always the way into a good college.

And about the criticisms and opinions, look at them as peoples' opinions on how to improve your chances, not personal attacks. Either way, I hope you lighten up, and I wish you the best of luck with admissions.

Janelle's not being skeptical, she is being right. Colleges like one great passion of a student and with your attention/time spread so thin it would be hard to be extremely passionate about one singular club. Not saying you aren't, you can easily prove that wrong with an essay and show them your passion. No one is saying that you don't do a lot of work so calm down. I agree with thevillageido, it's called advice, don't be so defensive.

Cornell (ED)- high fit
Emory- fit
UVA-fit
MIT- reach
Penn- low reach
Indiana- safety

I'm also a bit skeptical about your ECs. I guess you could fit everything in the way you said you did. But, I can't imagine you being able to run properly on only 4 hours of sleep every night (I can understand a few nights a week-sometimes I do that). I'm pretty sure your average person would collapse after a long enough time especially while trying to manage all these things. Eventually with lack of sleep would come bad school performance, bad work performance, etc. So something seems a bit fishy.

Dam 4 hours for sleep no wonder why you are so cranky.

You want to be chanced? You asked for it...

With a pathetic attitude like yours here's your realistic chances

Cornell (ED)- NO
Emory- NO
UVA-NO
MIT- NO
Penn- NO
Indiana- NO

james, are you jealous? Ok, realistcally, who's going to get into a better college, me or you? I think you know the answer
