A letter to future roomate

I am jokingly writing about my disorganization: messy room and floor full of scrap papers, I promise it is very funny. However, my mom thinks it would hurt my chance.
What do you think?
Thanks!!!
Great Year!!!

Messy room won’t hurt your chance, unless you make sure add something like, “But, I somehow always manage to find what I want”.

Also, don’t emphasize the messiness too much. It humanizes you, but is not a great trait to possess.

It will hurt you if you selfishly imply that it is your “right” to impact your roommate’s lifestyle through your lack of organization. We all know people with messy desks, but if you feel like you can trash a shared room and it’s just tough luck for your roommate, I wouldn’t do that.

if its funny it might be good

although i would try to make it funny without showing bad qualities of yours.

Trust your instincts. Most dorm rooms are messy. That isn’t going to come as a surprise to an ad-com.

Personally, I think a bigger red flag would be someone who insists on a neat room.

I think you’re fine as long as it’s funny and a bit apologetic to your future roommate. Agree with another poster that if you can throw in some mention of how “it may be messy, but I always know where everything is!” it helps remind the school that you are messy, but sharp! (a lot of creative, dynamic learners are messy!) I think it’s better to write something funny and humanizing than to approach that topic super seriously–they give you that prompt so you have an opportunity to show your personality, IMO.
