A little off-topic: timing of FAFSA vs. applications for admittance

I'm sure there's a more suitableplace for the question on CC, but those of you hashing about SLU seem to be such a genteel and knowledgeable bunch....

This is a newbie question.

If my son applies to College X in, say Sept but we don't get our FAFSA numbers until several months later (Jan), how do they prepare the financial aid package? I thought FAFSA was a key part of their calculations.

I’m not 100% sure about this because I’m something of a newbie myself, but I don’t believe they will prepare a financial aid package until the FAFSA numbers are in.

What you will find out about with your acceptance, is merit aid (scholarships) that don’t rely on FAFSA.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

jklm, you are correct.

Complete your FAFSA as soon after January 1st as possible.
