Financial Aid/Award Packages

Does anyone know when we might expect to receive the official package information? It's our first time thru this entire process. Wow. Thought I was prepared but it is mind boggling at times. Thanks for any info.

I think they update everything in April once the main deadline has passed.

Or maybe it’s this month? I don’t remember well. I think I’m about a month behind due to my parents just taking longer to do their taxes. (With me not being home to bug them about it all the time).

They give out as much money as possible until it runs out. And then in the summer, they readjust everything, so if you don’t get as much as you’d like now, I would seriously consider calling the Fin. Aid office during the summer to see if you can get any more money.

I know last year they started taking Grants and things like that away from students who had financial aid that totaled more than the cost of attendance (which for some people was several thousand dollars).

They also require work-study students to find a job by October. So if your child is interested in Work-Study and you qualify but don’t get it the first time around, then your child can go see Fin. Aid in October and ask if they have any additional money at that time that hasn’t been used for work-study.

Since many of us are on pins and needles about this subject, it would be great if anyone from the latest batch of acceptances who receives an award letter would post that fact here, so we all know that the letters are going out. Thanks in advance!

From what I remember, they don’t send you a letter.

You have to check VIP. If you’ve already submitted, you may already have information on VIP.

At the very least, if your child was awarded a scholarship, that should be there. I checked mine the other day and my University Scholarship is there but my LIFE and financial aid aren’t yet. I still have to fix mine.

I would definitely check the status of your financial aid application on VIP, because you might have some surprises. (Mine is making me fill out some form saying that I’m a dependent… even though it’s the same questions as on the actual FAFSA.)

AUGirl–

Thanks for your advice. Checked VIP. The same Dependent Verification Form was awaiting us as well. But no awards. We’ll call the office to see what that means at this point.

Checked VIP and all it states is that FAFSA form is complete and date it was submitted. Nothing about either of the scholarships that our D received letters about. I’m hoping it’s just early and that all of the info will be available to us soon?

I got my scholarship letter a couple of weeks ago in the mail, as did all of my friends who applied.

I would keep a check on the facebook page from the Financial Aid Office. They usually update it whenever they start to release information. https://www.facebook.com/USCFinaid

But as I recall, they won’t post awards to VIP until around April. If you already have your information in, you should be in good shape.

Last year, I was worried I turned in everything too late, but I got a chance to talk to the Fin. Aid office at Scholar’s Day and she assured me that having things in by Mid-March was pretty early.
