I've noticed a lot of hate on here in the last couple days, and I think its time we started puttin smiles on our faces. How about we talk about what we're doing in June before R-day?! I'll go first.

I'm pretty excited about June because I get an entire month off from the Army before i have to show up! I'm going to volunteer at a kids outdoor school camp, go sky diving, have bbq's, go to the beach, deep sea fishing, camping, fishing, and hang out with my neice and nephew! I've been thinking about flying into NYC a couple days early too to check out the sights. I'm kinda nervous about that though cus im from such a small town!

That sounds like a blast Mr. G! before I leave I'm doin some good stuff too. From May 30 to June 2, I'm goin to be a counselor at a 6th grade camp for my community's middle school; I get to teach "orienteering" at the camp which is like land navigation, so that should be a nice warm up and a good time to break in boots! Then June 11 to June 18, I'm goin to cancun with a friend.... I'm just hopin I don't get hurt or arrested down there doing something stupid... I think I'll be ok though;)

And there are some great things to do in NYC. If you were ready to go to Iraq next month, NY shouldn't make you nervous. :) There could be opportunities to visit during the academic year with a club.

I really want to go early because my other neice and nephew + bro ans sis in law livev in Rahway or something like that, about an hour from nyc. havent seen them in years.

jd cancun?! thats awesome! Someday ill make it down there. The camp im working at is also a 6th grade camp. You dont by chance live in Oregon do you?

No, I live in a Ohio. Yeah cancun should be fun, I went to Mexico last summer with a school club, and we stayed in cancun for 2 nights, so I won't be completely lost down there. You'll probably be able to go to cancun this year if you want. When I was on my overnight candidate vist, I saw an advertisement for a cadet trip to cancun, it was only like $800 for a whole week. So, maybe I can go again next spring and you can too.

West Pointers--what are YOU doing during your break?

I'm going home, where my boyfriends going to come and pick me up to go to Fort Knox for a week or so. I'll be with him, go home for the last week or so and TAN, EAT, and just plain RELAX (and party, of course!) Honestly, I want to spend a lot of time in coffee shops and bookstores. I miss just being able to chill. I'm going to go on long drives with the windows down and the music turned up. I'm going to enjoy my friends, my family, and my freedom. And then, on to Bucknam (or Buckistan, Buckraq, Buckran, whichever you prefer).

So, my last day of school is June 16th... but I leave for SLS on June 9... Therefore, I have to take my finals 1 week early... which, if you didn't realize, does NOT make your teachers super happy...

Then, I get back on June 16th, sleep all day the 17th and 18th, and then on June 19th I head down to Eugene, OR (U of O) for Boys' State... I get back from Boys' State on June 24th, and then on the 25th I head to a summer camp I am working at as a counselor, and camp starts the next day...

I will then be at that camp until late August. I get 1 week of rest and then back to school!

Hope all of you guys reporting at R-day enjoy the days you have left. Remember, they are numbered!

yeah marines4me, i hear you. hopefully i'll pass all my classes and get a nice three week break where i will do a lot of nothing. maybe go water skiing but nothing else recreational. lay by the pool a little. it will be nice.

boys state is a student run state government camp. you spend the first 2-3 days running for an elected position such as sheriff, senator, congressman and even govenor. the entire camp is divided into cities and counties so there are plenty of positions tobe fill by the boys staters. i remember when i went this past summer i met some of the coolest/smartest highschool students around. one even became mayor this year at the age of 18! wpwannabe, you are gonna have one hell of a time.

Lol, it feels like the Academy dates are made for Texas schools. We get out in late may, graduation and all done before june. Makes all the academy stuff well within time constraints of school.

Boys state is pretty stupid. Its a lot of crappy meetings and dbags getting fake positions in a fake state. I suggest going if you have the chance for the resume building but be prepared for a boring week. It is a lot of wierd kids who one day will probably run this country but right now are president of the model UN and have less social skills then a mouse. It sucks but its worth it,

Well I've heard Boys' State is what you make of it so... sounds like you didn't make much of it.

I'm looking forward to it, and I am planning to run for Governor (though of course I will be running against infinitely more talented public speakers than myself :D).

I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a bore, especially since I'll be going immediately after what is bound to be an awesome week at WP.

This summer is gonna be fun, but I just realized the other day that really, my life will never slow down EVER again. It's go go go (for the most part) from here on out.

That's a bit daunting to think about being the 17-year-old I am. Have any of you guys thought about that too? I mean, for Academy bound students it's 9 years already minimum (assuming you stay) and then of course life doesn't just stop even if you do decide to 5-and-fly. It just keeps going. You get a job, marriage, kids... really daunting.

But I'm ready (I think). This is the lifestyle I want, and I hope I can hack it!
