I transferred to a reputable state school after spending 3 semesters at a highly regarded small liberal arts college. In between the two schools, I spent a few months working a menial job, at which I figured what I wanted to do in life. Medical school, no question about it.

I was miserable during my first three semesters of college. I took a wide variety of courses, most of which sucked, and I had no direction whatsoever. I pulled a 2.83. Now that I transferred and I have a purpose, I have a 3.96 after three semesters of all science intensive courses. The only science course I took at the small school was gen chem 1 which I got a C in.

My concern: How do med schools look at GPAs??

I will continue doing well for the 2 years I have left, but will med schools construe my transfer as "hey this kid couldn't handle a prestigious school " or "this kid really got his act together, and his first three semesters don't mean much anyhows". Do I really need to defend myself on the application?

Your thoughts are welcome. Thanks.
