How does OU petroleum engineering compare to Tex A&M? I know both are good, but A&M and UT appear to be harder to get into. So is A&M more competitive and a harder school than OU?

UT’s is much better than OU’s and A&M’s. Of the three OU’s is by far the easiest to get into, then A&M, and UT’s is the most prestigious and difficult to get into.

In terms of rankings, there’s not much difference between A&M and OU’s Petroleum Engineering programs (from US News). But, that’s likely just a result of the relative dearth of P.E. programs in the country. Academically, there’s no question that A&M is a stronger university than OU–for example, A&M’s engineering college is ranked in the top 15, while OU’s isn’t even in the top 100. A&M has more selective admissions than OU, and based on my experience at OU, I’d wager that classes are more competitive and difficult at A&M.

My vote is with UT if that’s in the picture. Beyond that, A&M would probably still be a better choice over OU in general, unless you have some strong ties to OU.
