UT Austin vs Texas A&M for Petroleum Engineering

Hi, I recently got accepted to a&m for petroleum engineering, and due to my high SAT/ACT scores and class ranking (top 5 percent) there is a decent chance I’m going to be accepted to UT for PetE as well.

Anyways, which petroleum engineering program is superior? Please don’t answer saying “PetE grads aren’t getting jobs” or whatever.

Lastly, I’m strictly talking about the ACADEMIC superiority for petroleum engineering at each school. Not which campus is better, or that Austin is a better city.

I’ve heard Texas A&M has a better petroleum program, and in 2014 they got ranked number 1 while UT is number 2. But I don’t how US News ranks, so I am hoping to get some better answers from some engineering grads!

Thanks!

Texas A&M PetE has been top ranked for over 20 years. It is a top notch program, with a strong alumni network as well. I know several A&M PetE grads, and they are doing quite well.
However, you can’t go wrong with either. It’s kind of like asking whether Harvard or Yale is better.

Can’t go wrong with either one. Which one will have cheaper tuition?

Well, they both have same tuition price, but overall A&M is cheaper because of room and board prices. However I have gone to college station and Austin and i can say that i preffered college station 10x more than Austin for some reason. So mabye that will be the deciding factor .
