Texas a&m vs ut austin

Hi, I'm going to be applying for college soon and really hope to major in petroleum engineer(u can probably tell from the username). I was wondering which college is better in this particular field so I can know which one to focus on more and can u also tell me which one has better living, students and overall college lifestyle. Thanks

Aggies will probably tell you to go to A&M, and Longhorns will say UT! You should visit both campuses to see which one you like. I couldn’t see myself in College Station, but Aggies would probably say that about Austin!

I grew up in Austin and still enjoy visiting the city. There’s always something fun going on.

As far as schools go, you’d get an excellent education at either one. A&M brags about its alumni network, but UT has a very strong one, also.

They’re both excellent. I doubt you’ll see a recruiting difference between the two schools although you will find a big difference in on campus life. Have you investigated what petroleum engineering actually is?

For PetE it is pretty much a dead heat between these 2 schools. Both are excellent. As stated above the schools and environment are very different. You should visit and see which feels better to you. And don’t just visit the school. Check the city and surroundings too. Very different.

Are you in state or out of state?

You say you will be applying soon. The application deadline has passed so unless you are a high school junior you are too late for this year.

My son has been admitted to A&M Petroleum Engineering and is waiting to hear from UT.

Note that if you are not in the top 7% of your class your chances of getting into UT are extremely slight.

I’m a junior in high school so by soon I meant next year and as far as grades go I think I’ll get accepted into at least one of the colleges (top 3% in my class)

Make sure to apply as soon as possible to Texas A&M and probably UT Austin. At least for A&M, that increases the likelihood you’ll get into the engineering option. I don’t know if that’s the case for UT although an early acceptance is awesome. If you get into both schools for engineering, tour them. I believe they’re only about two hours away so it’s possible to check out both in a day or two.
