I am truly grateful for the psychiatric hospital my son is in. We are so impressed with all the staff we met yesterday His social worker spent an hour and a half with us, taking lots of notes and telling us what would be happening during the near future. She said she’s really excited to be working with our son. Because it’s the state hospital, they have access to more resources and private hospitals. For example, when they decide where he should live in the future, he will be at the top of the list for housing. I’m so glad my preconception of state hospitals was incorrect.
What I keep hearing over and over again, though, makes me very sad. Professionals tell me that almost all seriously mentally ill people have no family support. They said my husband and I are the exception. When you hear something horrible has happened in the country, keep that in mind. It’s a broken society.
I’m not happy my mom got a stomach bug and had to cancel my belated bday dinner. But, I am grateful I had the idea to meet up with younger S and GF at the VA Safari park. We took the kids a few times when they were young, but hadn’t been in awhile. Tons of better photos of the animals eating from our car, but those also had people in them. They’ve added a lot more animals in their zoo section. What a nice day!!! So grateful the kids could come on short notice!
I’m grateful USPS was able to get our flat rate padded envelope with 2 bottles of Enovid antiviral nasal spray to our S and his fiancée, today, just before his marathon tomorrow. I’ve asked them to use it so hopefully they will remain healthy, even with the 35,000 runners plus supporters and friends. Yay! So glad it got from HI to NY from Tuesday to Saturday!
Grateful for H being my best friend over these past years and grateful that he’s been totally on board with celebrating our anniversary every month, not just every year. Today was such a gorgeous day to spend together starting with sleeping in and capped by a delicious dinner out. In between we discussed plans to go to the next couple of eclipses and get a boat to do a loop from the intercoastal, across to the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi, and more.
I love making plans, then carrying them out. I hope we have many more years to continue being active wandering, and I’m grateful for our luck in the birth lotteries that we’re able to do so.
Beautiful weather, wonderful friends and a fantastic backyard birthday celebration for one of our nearest and dearest. Life is so much better shared with others
Grateful for: cooking mushroom risotto while listening to Rachmaninov’s 3rd piano concerto. Grateful for Vladimir Ashkenazy’s performance. Grateful to my dad who introduced me to this soul stirring performance. My risotto was not bad either.
I am grateful I got to spend much of the day with my son yesterday, even if it was driving 5 hours together. (Plus playing with the baby kitty we picked up).
Today I am grateful we can afford to order whatever groceries we want.
Today I am thankful for good neighbors. We have lived in our neighborhood for 25+ years, as have several of our neighbors nearby. It is comforting to know that we can, and have, always been able to count on each other in a pinch.
So thankful voting is so easy in our state. Everyone us mailed ballots. There are postage pre-paid envelopes and drop boxes, your choice or you can go to a few places for in person voting. So glad no one has to wait in interminable lines to vote. That’s just wrong!
Another mild day that allowed us to ride our bikes downtown for the last Sunday farmers/artisan market of the season (and for living so close to a vibrant and artsy small city).
Today I am thankful we live close to D and her family. It’s “Mimi Monday” and GD will be here all day. We get to see GD, it’s helpful to D and SIL, so it’s a win-win!
The beautiful maple tree that is 25 feet or so off my balcony has really put on a show this last month and has just a little longer before all the leaves are gone. Thankful for this unexpected joy in my new home. When I got 35 minutes to view my unit before the next agent brought his clients through last May, I certainly wasn’t processing what the fall foliage would look like as I decided to make an offer. Fall has a way of making me stop and take notice of nature’s gifts in a way that I am afraid I don’t do during other seasons.
