A must know if you are considering to apply to Trinity

Recently there have been some incidents on campus that deserve to be looked into if you are considering Trinity as a potential college. One would think that a school in the Northeast would not have so many bigots... yet there are. I personally have lost all faith in the school.

Thanks for explaining what you're talking about.

You need to read the dusty (you'll get it if you read it) "Prove Me Wrong" article by Chris Moore Trinity College Hartford. But then be on the lookout for an article in the Trinity Tripod (The newspaper) that will explain a thing or two.

on the other hand read this:
http://www.trinitytripod.com/media/paper520/news/2005/09/27/Opinions/Students.In.Desperate.Need.Of.WakeUp.Call-1000148.shtml

Like most schools, Trinity College definitely has its share of major ASHLES. The incident of which we speak happened at a sports event between Trinity and Wesleyan when one drunk frat kid called an opposing player a "Fag". Not one of Trinity's best moments but one jerk does not make wrong an entire student body -
Thankfully, there are enough decent, intelligent students on Trinity's campus to hopefully counteract the seedier, sadder segment there.

http://www.trinitytripod.com/media/paper520/news/2005/10/18/Opinions/Hate-Hits.Some.Harder-1024471.shtml

As a parent of Trinity kid, I hope the administration continues to hammer down hard at some of their more reprehensible students. It's long overdue.

For what its worth, here's another student's opinion on the matter:

http://www.trinitytripod.com/media/paper520/news/2005/10/18/Opinions/Campus.Rallies.But.Is.It.Even.Heard-1024479.shtml

I fear the basic premise of his article - that it is difficult to convert the unwilling - has far too much truth to it. But at least, these pathetic incidents are not met with silence by their peers but with critical dialogue; what one would expect and hope for on a campus dedicated to intellectual and social inquiry.

It was not one drunk frat kid, it was a bunch of students. The 'one drunk frat kid' poured a beer on a kid and called the kid's hat ugly(if you read Chris Moore's rantings you'll know). A totally unrelated incident. Yet, the college took it upon themselves to punish the drunk kid, not yet a frat boy, and was severely punished by the college. He was suspended for a whole year and not allowed to take classes elsewhere. The college made this kid the scapegoat for all the problems that they have been having. This leads me to believe there really are not as many smart people as you think on the Trinity campus. But there seems to be many followers of vigliantism, Chris Moore is one of them. He reported the drunk kid because the kid with the ugly hat was his friend. The drunk kid even made amends before Moore reported him (that was the way that Moore found out his name). I wouldn't go to school with such people, no one should.

No, McWaspy, we should all go to Hamilton with you....Yeah!

Wahoo! Go Continentals!

By the way, this is the story I was talking about:
http://www.trinitytripod.com/media/paper520/news/2005/10/25/Opinions/Suspended.On.Unjust.Terms-1033121.shtml

And here is another interesting related story:
http://www.trinitytripod.com/media/paper520/news/2005/10/25/Editor/Administration.Deals.Unfair.Punishment-1033130.shtml

McWaspy - what exactly are you getting at? I am totally missing your point here - are you so naive as to believe this kind of **** does not happen anywhere else? Open your eyes. At least at Trin its not overlooked and swept under the table.

What's your beef with Trin. anyway...An old botfriend go there that dumped you?

I don't have a problem with Trinity, I have a problem with Chris Mother-f#$%er Moore. No he is not an old boyfriend, perish the thought, I just don't like bigots and injustice. It really gets me when I was listening to Russian techno the other night, and I was in Latvia, just to think that such injustices can occur in social conscious university. By the way, have you taken the SATI, I think I need to get my score re-checked, I only got a 2370, and I know that is impossible. I totally had this thingy worked out, and by the way TEXAS IS AWESOME YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE TEXASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"I just don't like bigots and injustice.... just to think that such injustices can occur in social conscious university..."

Welcome to the real world, McWasp. Your heart is in the right place but you are very niave. Racist and sexist atttiudes/comments happen at nearly all universities - some perhaps more vocally than others...the expectation here, however, is that that individual(s) is taken to task, that the incident is not brushed under the table, that open discussion occurs, that such behavior it is not tolerated. In that case, I think the Trinity admin. and its students behaved admirably - better than alot of other universities I have been affiliated with. mIn essence, you gave the school a bad rap for the actions of one (or a few) students which was not only unfair but in a sense - a form of bigotry itself. You become the very thing you abhor.
