<p>Where is the closest grocery store, like Publix, etc.? D food shops when she can get a ride to the Super Target but she is paying dearly for it! grrrr…</p>
<p>Come out of UCF and go north on Alafaya trail. Essentially at the intersection of Mcculloh and Alafaya trail (the North west Corner of UCF) is a Walmart neighborhood grocery store, also a publix. This is within walking distance, albeit a bit of a hike. If you didn’t have a ride, you could get one of those collapsable shopping carts. Also, if you keep going north on alafaya, into Oviedo, there’s an albertson’s on the left, a publix on the right (at Mitchell Hammock). If you leave out of UCF (crossing McCulloh)on Lockwood Blvd. going North, there’s a Winn Dixie in Oviedo (past all the neighborhoods and the golf course). My S shops at the Walmart grocery, the Winn Dixie, and he shops the ads at the publix and albertson’s. Hope that helps. </p>

<p>P.S. It hasn’t opened yet, but an Aldi grocery store is opening on Alafaya Trail in Oviedo, right after the Woody’s Bar B Q, before you get to the Albertson’s. I heard they are supposed to be a price leader when they open.</p>
<p>Jerseyshoremom I have yet to go food shopping because ive been a little busy but I can offer a suggestion for your D. There is a Publix on East Colonial Drive. You can easily get to it by taking the shuttle that goes from UCF to The Lofts and Jefferson Village, the furthest off campus housing complexes. Both of these two housing complexes are located literally right behind the shopping center where Publix is. I find this to be a pretty good alternative than catching a ride to super target because you can actually get there with the UCF shuttles. The buses are supposed to pass by every 20 minutes and for the most part they do okay meeting that goal. There’s also a Lynx bus that goes to Walmart but on top of having to pay for that bus, a friend of mine told me that he waited close to an hour for the bus to come by and pick him up from Walmart.</p>
<p>Thanks all! We will be there for parents weekend. At that time, I want to stock up on groceries for her, too. I’ll have a car so I am looking for a store comparable with the Shop-Rites and Pathmarks of the north. </p>
<p>Is the Walmart Grocery Store expensive? I see the convenience within walking (hiking) distance. D found the Super Target expensive.</p>

<p>I don’t think Walmart groceries are expensive. Publix is along the lines of Shoprite. It is the staple food store of Orlando. Albertsons is also a biggie. The meat everywhere down here is more expensive than Jersey!</p>
<p>I don’t know about how expensive meat is compared to New Jersey, but I do know that if you shop the ads, especailly with albertson’s and winn dixie, you can get some great meat buys. I very rarely buy meat at Publix; they seem more expensive to me, except things on sale in their ad. I love the $1.69 boneless skinless chicken breasts that Alberston’s has on sale now. They’re huge so I can cut them in half and get four pieces out of two breasts. I have an extra freezer, so I stock up. Walmart grocery store and winn dixie grocery are pretty good for staple items, especially – canned goods and stuff, as they have pretty good store brands. The Aldi’s that’s supposed to open up is (at least from the newspaper articles I’ve read) a no-frills kind of store, but apparently quite good at bringing grocery prices down once they move in. I like that idea … :)</p>

<p>According to my AAA map, the Albertson’s in Oviedo is 4.3 miles from the UCF arena. Again, just head north on Alafaya Trail. At the corner of Alafaya Trail and Mitchell Hammock (before the light, after the Burger King), you can turn left into the Albertson’s plaza. Ads come out on Wed. here, so have your d grab an Orlando Sentinel and check the ads out before you come. I don’t buy chicken breasts from anywhere else, though, as Albertson’s always running between $1.60 to $1.99 for fresh breasts most weeks. I think you can also check the ads on-line for the region. </p>
<p>The closest to campus is not the Colonial stores, its the McCulloch Walmart/Publix. Walmart is always much cheaper if you don’t coupon/sale shop. You can get better deals at Publix with coupons or looking for sales. Its easy to walk to from the towers through the woods, there is a trail in there, maybe a 10-15 minute walk. If you’re farther then the towers I’d use UCF shuttle route 6 to Tivoli and thats pretty close as well. The only place you can consistantly get better prices then the Walmart Grocery Store is the Super Walmart on Colonial, which you’d have to use Lynx to get to.</p>
<p>Well Publix is always more expensive than Walmart and Albertson. I only shop there when stuff is on sale. I would suggest you goto the Super Walmart that is on Colonial Drive. I would say it is less than 5 miles from the university. Take Alfalfa to Colonial/50 Hwy. Go West and Walmart will be on your left. If you don’t mind off brands continue west on Colonial and you will see an Aldi and Over Stock Grocery. If you want to stock up I suggest Walmart. Overall the prices are cheaper. My S and I went there and stocked up on about a month worth of staples and it cost me $100. I noticed from his bank account he goes back there on a weekly basis to spend 20-40 bucks. He also mentioned that Publix is way to expensive and Target didn’t have the same assortment. I am about to take him to Sam so he can stock up on larger qty. We can do that over by the house and I do not have to deal with campus/university traffic.</p>
<p>For the majority of the time, I will shop the ads. I will also do comparative shopping in the Ads to make sure that I’m getting a good deal. Back home in Tampa, I used to shop at Save-a-lot. I haven’t seen a Save-a-lot in Orlando yet or maybe I’m overlooking. I also love Publix. Their Deli, as well as Seafood are absolutely awesome. Whenever they have a Buy 1, Get 1 Free Sale, I try to stock up stuff I need. They will allow you to use 2 coupons on their BOGO Sales. Register or tell your kids to for Couponmom.com. This person takes the time to match up all the flyers with Coupons so you save additional money. For school, I use the website Bookrenter.com and find some great deals on renting books for the Semester.</p>
<p>UCF also has a farmers market every Sunday from 10-4 at Knights Plaza (in front of the arena) that sells fresh produce, pasta, and some other food, which can be a very good option for students without a car.</p>
