A on pre-test...

So today in my Intro to Biology class, the professor handed out a pre-test to see where we were at. I took AP Bio senior year of high school, so a lot of the stuff I had already learned. I only missed 4 of 30 questions on the pre-test and I'm pretty sure I got one of the highest grades in the class. The class is mainly comprimised of football and basketball players and kids who don't really care about school. Now, I'm no genius, but I'm pretty passionate about learning and I've grown to be pretty interested in Biology. It really bums me out when I hear kids complaining about how lame science is. It seems to me a lot of them are taking their education for granted. I've kinda gotten the impression that this class is kind of like a 'rocks for jocks' type course. Is this class going to be a complete waste of time?

No it wont, especially if it's a pre-req for anything else you're ever gonna take. If, however, you think of it as such and assume you already know all the information, you will fail the course. Besides, if you took AP Bio and didn't get Bio I credit - let alone intro to Bio - you must not understand the material that well. You're supposed to know the stuff on the pre-test before the class, that's ehy it's not a real test.

I didn't take the AP test, that's why I didn't get the credit. It's not a pre-req for any class I want to take, it's just a gen. ed. class. My advisor said it's a good class for 'non-science majors' The class is Bio I, it's just called intro to bio.

i took intro to bio and it royally sucked. i would of rather taken like engineering physics or something like that. they try to dumb it down for non science majors and it was really boring and pointless.

if bio is what you want to do, and this is bio for non-science majors, then yes, drop out and switch to the intro to bio for science majors

I'm not a Biology major (philosophy/literature major) but I am interest in Biology

Drew00, dude what school do you attend?

This is America, you are the Minority, There is no money in science, you could become a biologist or a chemist, even an engineer and make the same as a sales manager who works at circuit city and best buy will make, they have alot more room for growth, and guess what they don't have a college education.

Vinny, did you not read the thread? Bio is NOT my major. I'm a Philosophy and English literature double major.

so if its easy, then get a good grade,

Its not what you know, Its what people think you know and you can show this by taking easy classes and getting a high gpa.

If you missed 4 out of 30 then that's only 86.7% and not an "A".

I can understand your situation, drew. I'd suggest trying to stick it out for a week or so. If you still haven't changed your mind, then you'd still be able to drop the class without getting a W (I think). I find that there are more than enough students who are able to achieve high grades in even some of the most basic classes. I walked into bio pretty confident (this was after a test which I did pretty darn well on) but that confidence didn't last very long. Anyways, try giving it a shot. You're interested in bio, so you may end up liking it more than you think.

According to <a href="http://www.salaryexpert.com%5B/url%5D">http://www.salaryexpert.com</a> - A Civil Engineer in my zip code makes, on average, $73,485. In the same zip code, a "Department Retail Supervisor" makes, on average, $48,571. Mechanical Engineers make more than Civil. Aeronautical more than Mechanical, and so on.

You are an idiot.

If you think a Engineer is going to Make 73K a year your Nuts. Honestly, They make around 55K and then after about 20 years they will make around 65K.

Vinny you are an idiot. Read the bottom where it says speciality.

Also, I'm pretty sure a sales manager without a degree does not have the option to move into Ibanking, medicine, pharmacy, law, or dentistry.

My boss makes somewhere between 75 and 80k and she's only had her BS for 5 years and her PE (Professional Engineer) liscense for 2. Her boss makes upwards of 150k a year. I don't have a degree yet and make more than people I know who are supervisors/managers for stores like Best Buy and Circut City. Obviously though, I have no idea what I'm talking about.
