Is political science a pointless degree is one is not sure if they are going to law school? I'm interested in perhaps majoring in political science but public policy/administration is kind of interesting to me. But I know I need good work experience if I am going to get a masters in public policy. Will a BA in political science allow me to do this, or will I be stuck in a crummy job with very little pay? I'm also concerned because I know the major is so flooded, especially with the upcoming election. So should i just stay away from political science? Any advice would be appreciated!

I have a political science degree. I would not call it pointless, but if you are looking for pure monetary success, a graduate degree is essential. I really enjoyed learning about poli sci, and that was my motivation for majoring in it. Law school was an option, but I did not want to be a lawyer. Jobs that were available to me were mostly in the 30 - 40 k range after graduation.
You can always offset this by minoring in economics or business.
In hindsight, I wish I had continued on directly into a MPA program. I have worked the last 7 years (not in the political arena), and now I am pursuing my MBA.
I think you should major (undergrad) in something that drives you and interests you, but minor in something that sets you up for a better job or graduate school.

A liberal arts or social science degree is not useless. Major in what you love. Once you figure out what you truly desire, you can go back to graduate school (if necessary) to propel your career. For example, business schools have many liberal arts majors. You don't need to be a math or engineering whiz to get an MBA.
