Is political science a useless major? Why do so many people take it?

I mean, what can you really do with a political science degree that you can't do with another degree?

according to payscale.com, mid-career median salary for poly-sci is 80k. That’s respectable, considering how many people, who may not all be elite minds, have degrees in it

Well, a lot of them become lawyers. But you can become a lawyer with just about any degree as long as you go to law school.

True, but it would, if nothing else, prepare you better for law school. Also, the lawyer field is way over-saturated and for every big-shot lawyer that everybody aspires to be, there are 20 lawyers working long hours in crap jobs making less than $15-20 an hour.

There are no useless majors…

I don’t think it’s useless at all, if you’re going into politics…tons of people major in it if they want to get into law school, and I’ve heard it’s a little more useful if you double major with econ or business.
