a post for all of us Early Decisions

Well, parik, let's just hope that's not what it means!

do u guys usually get mail from nyu...maybe ur not on the mailing list?

i woudnt worry, i really dont think it was any type of welcmoing brochure. It just was like "apply here bc here are some happy people that go here, yay nyu" aka a complete waste of my time and their money

I'm not on a mailing list.

yeah, i received it around then also, but I don't think it has anything to do with decisions, I would be lucky to get into Stern. But why would they send these expensive booklets to everyone? Makes your wonder. We'll anyway, I just hope I get in.

hm so i wonder how they notify gsp...do they begin with 'congrats!' or more of a 'were sorry to inform you' kinda thing

I know someone who got that same booklet who hasn't applied yet...

Oh, I got one of those things. I walked in my house and there was this huge envelope from NYU sitting there on the kitchen table. I was celebrating prematurely, doing a little dance as I opened it. Much to my chagrin, it was that weird brochure.

Personally I think it has nothing to do with who got accepted and who didn't. I think it's just random.

That booklet sucked. There was that quote by "Juan," "sometimes me and my friends go to my aunt's house in Chelsea for a real puerto rican meal..." - I don't care about JUAN or his aunt's house in Chelsea! Really unncessary booklet and definitly not the best showcasing of NYU I've seen.

I read somewhere that those referred to GSP got a letter along the lines of "We're sorry we cannot offer you admissions to the college of your choice...BUT we are referring you to GSP etc. etc." and proceed to explain it. I think it comes in a big envelope. I can't remember where I read this. It might been on CC or somewhere else. I have searched the internet thoroughly for every admissions question I have--so all the website are blurred together in my memory.

I hope decisions, positive or negative, come sooner than the 15th!

the gsp letters do come in a big envelope and the letter says we cannot accept you into -- but we'd like to offer you admission into NYU's general study program and it explains the program a little bit and give you a slip of paper to check yes or no if you still want to attend. It's basically a crazy emotional roller coaster of i didn't get in? did i get in? i think i got in.... those should be coming really soon, within the next few days. I got my gsp acceptance last year on dec 3rd. And those of you who immediately are writing off gsp and say you dont want to go at all you should think again and really consider it. That's how I felt at first and then thought about it and realized that I will end up with the exact same degree I would have before. I'm not regretting the decision at all. All it basically is is you fill your general requirements in the first two years of college and then are free to take more electives junior and senior year... anddddd you only have 4, small classes twice a week without the million recitations to go to like all the other schools do. gsp... not that bad.

I know! My mom comes running in with the mail and says "SKYLER I THINK IT'S HERE!!" so everybody in my house comes running towards my mother to see if I had been accepted to NYU..but all it was, was a silly little book. I almost had a heart attack! Everyone was like "man that sucks, how cruel is that?"

Ahaha, I haven't submitted my app yet but I got the big book too. Is it purple? That book was ridiculously huge. They've sent me a lot of stuff since the summer.

if i got in gsp, i think i would probably go for it. i love nyu and if thats my only way to get into stern then i think i would take the opportunity.

I don't know, because part of the idea of applying to Gallatin was the independence and ability to take courses across the schools - GSP sounds completely opposite.

yeah catherine i agree.

i think GSP would be a fine alternative for CAS, being you have to take those stupid MAP courses anyway. other programs ease up the on the core requirements.

but for Gallatin or any other specialized program, it would tick me off, because you can't take any electives until second semester sophomore year. but if NYU is someone's dream school, it does make a lot of sense.

boooo to hard decision making.

anyone know if they GSP steinhardt? i know they wouldn't for msical theatre, fine arts, or any of the specialties..but what about communications?

i never thought to ask ha.

I went to NYU for the steinhardt thing they had..and they divided up the group by the major. So obviously I was at the communications one..and she mentioned the gsp program, so I'm thinking you must be able to be deferred there.

I'm so nevous today b/c you said your friend got a welcoming email from steinhardt on dec 2nd!!! is she also a communications major?

ugh boo to gsp. haha.

i know i'm nervous too. i'm almost 75% sure she was in communications. she was selling tickets for steinhardt's show and she got us in, and i remmeber talking to her for a long time for a reason hah.

i was asking how long it took her to get a decision and she was like 'yeah i got an email on like the 2nd, it was really bizarre i didn't know what to think of it'

so, i'm not reallly sure.

i mean i'm checking my email haha but if i don't get one i don't think i'll give up hope.

I just opened my mailbox and there was a big white envelope, and I looked at it and it was for the people who lived in our house before us. I seriously have had about 10-near-heart attacks since NYU has come into my life.

I always find, too, that things come when you're not expecting them to come.

They most certainly do Alex. When I recieved my acceptance letter into Tisch, I'd almost forgetten that I applied! It shouldn't have, as it was my dream school, and the only school I applied to, but for some reason when that big purple envelope arrived, I'd completely forgotten that acceptance/rejection letters were on the way. Needless to say, when I recieved it I did the celebration dance to end all celebration dances; truly one of the highlights of my life so far.

To all good luck, I really do hope you get in. Its an amazing school, and I'm proud to call it my Alma Mater.
