A potential issue?

Hi all,
So I am applying to Princeton SCEA and I am a legacy (father). There is also an athlete who already received a likely letter applying. I just learned today that another person in my school who has better academics than I (GPA, grades possibly, not scores) is applying as well. As far as I know, we are the only ones applying early. Will this hurt my chances (already somewhat low chances for everyone aside) as accepting an athlete and a legacy over a slightly more qualified student may "look bad" for the University? In general, do more people applying from one school influence admissions to a large extent?

Thanks

If your academics are weaker than the other applicant, that may certainly hurt you. The legacy hook is really more of a tip, unless your parent has donated massive sums of money or a building.

Thanks fauve, but just so I understand correctly - you’re saying that within my school, or any school, a person who is more qualified and from the same school will hurt my chances more than that person from another school, right?

I honestly don’t believe that Princeton is looking to only accept one student per school, etc. They might notice that you attend the same school but you’ll get your decision independent of theirs. i.e. if they get in it doesn’t mean they can no longer accept you.

I agree totally with Purpender. Your fear that Princeton is worried about admitting too many students from your HS is based on the assumption that they otherwise, need to set aside slots to admit kids from other schools. I ask: for what purpose? Are they trying to curry favor with other schools? Are they trying to not offend HS counselors by admitting zero? Are they trying to artificially admit 2 at your school in order to “spread the wealth”?

These can be only true if they give a darn about what high schools think of them. It’s doggone Princeton. They will admit whom they want to admit, regardless of whose feelings might get hurt.

If you get admitted or rejected, it won’t be because of the no. of applicants from your HS. There’s no quota limit. If you’re great, they’ll take you and anyone else they consider a good admit. Good luck to you.

Thanks people this is all really helpful!
