A Question about pre med...

What are considered pre med majors? Is neuroscience one of them??

At Hopkins (and I believe everywhere) there are no “pre med majors”

You can major in whatever you want, and still be “pre-med.” Pre-med just means that you are taking the classes necessary for medical school admission (basic sciences, 1 year of math, 1 year of English).

It might be EASIER to be a pre-med and be a, say, biology major. This is because a lot of the requirements for the major coincide with the requirements for medical school (2 birds with one stone). However, that doesn’t mean a biology major is better than, say, a music major.

^Correct, there are not pre-med majors but most popular are the sciences. That said, it’s easier to stand out in the med school applicant process if you’re not a science major but rather a humanist or engineer.

While what they are saying above is absolutely true and is the soundest advice anybody can give, majors that require and are worked around the pre med reqs generally include, yes, neuroscience, biophysics, ChemBE (chem eng and biomol) though this one is definitely not a “pre med” major, it’s engineering but with a good app to bio, Public Health, Biology, Chem, Physics seem to be the most popular majors for students on the pre med advising track.

Again, do what you love, pre med is not a major and you should never do something like Biomedical engineering because it sounds like it will get you into med school, etc :)

^^ Agreed!
