A question for the applicants of 2016-17...

You are correct @SevenDad ;)!! BTW… Trivia for Saturday night- name the BS who had a faculty member that became a famous golf course architect? Some say prestige, I just love the history of it!

How should I determine if a school is a good fit if I can’t visit the school in person?I won’t be able to visit schools and Im going to cast a wide net but I want to make sure the schools I applied to I want to attend. So how to determine fit without visiting schools?

You’ll never know for sure, but you can start by making a list of must-haves and nice-to-haves… and maybe even assigning points to each criteria:

  • Do you prefer a lot of structure or a lot of freedom?
  • Casual dress or formal dress?
  • Assigned seating at several meals each week or the freedom to sit with friends at all meals?
  • Do you need to be near an airport? Does it have to have direct flights from your airport in California?
  • Availability of a particular sport? (Not all schools have crew, ice hockey, swimming or fencing.)
  • Do you love the idea of daily chapel? Prefer just weekly? Never?
  • A small school where kids where lots of different hats EC and sports-wise or a large school where you can specialize in fewer ECs and sports but at a more advanced level?

How you answer those Qs will help narrow your list and you may discover that there are a handful of schools that are much better fits.
