hey everyone! my Boys State interview is in a couple of days and i've a few questions to ask:

what are some typical questions that the interviewers of Boys' State would ask at the interview?
is there anything in particular that i should read up prior to the interview?

I went last year, unwillingly, but it was really one of the best times I've ever had. It wasn't really as "academic" as I thought it would be, and we were pretty much drunk and/or gambling most of the time. My girlfriend even stopped by one night (the college it was at was only ~15 minutes from us) and I snuck her into the dorm.
Basically don't blow the interview, the connections those guys at Boys State have is ridiculous - there will definitely be someone there from one of the schools you want to go to. At the Massachusetts one, Michael Dukakis spoke for us as well as numerous other government figures. They'll probably just ask you about how school is going and what you want to do in the future, pretty typical of any interview.

It is a good time, but other summer programs like gov. school are more valuble in my opinion.

Yeah, they'll as you things like that. Many questions last year were about the election and War in Iraq. I would go if your opporunity cost was being at home and having a part-time job in the summer, because you meet lots of neat people. Plus its not nearly as serious as it sounds.

I got interviewed for this on Friday and was chosen as the only boy from my school to go. Luckily for you, the questions are fresh on my memory, so I can give you a detailed explanation.

There was 5 guys with suits on and patriotic ties, so it is pretty intimidating being in that room yourself. They things they ask you...

Do you have any objections to the pledge of allegiance or the american flag?

Do you have any conflicts during the week of boys state?

Do you object to getting a physical from a doctor the week of boys state?

In your opinion, describe what the American Legion is and what they represent. (I had no idea, so I just listed some random stuff I knew about them. Definitley look on the website and read about their history)

Describe the process of boys state and what it means (read about it like above)

What extracurricular activities do you do (list all sports, clubs, etc..make sure to talk about this as much as possible)

What do you hope to pursue with your career, and what would you like to major in?

What colleges are you interested in looking at, and why?

Would you ever consider joining the army or military? If so, what would you like to do there?

Do you support the war in iraq?

Do you go to church every week or do you do curch related activities?

Do you or have you ever had a job?

Will you get homesick if you are away from your parents for a week?

That is about all I can remember that they asked. The biggest thing to remember is, it is 5 war veterans that all fought in WWII etc so, do not say anything to offend them. Obviously, act as patriotic as you can and give the answers that they want to hear, not necessarily what you believe in. For example, I would tell them that you support the war in iraq even if you don't, because they kept telling me how important patriotism and the flag is to them.

Be confident and elaborate on the activities that you do. I don't go to church or have ever had a job, but they still chose me because I had a ton of extracurriculares.

The guy told me it looks great on college transcripts, so that is really good. What state are you in? I am going to the Georgia boys state..

Yeah, the first few questions are retarded. Who is going to say they have objections to the pledge of allegiance if they are trying to get selected?
