A question from up North

Has UCLA been hit by the UC budget cuts as bad as UC Berkeley? How are the budget cuts affecting life at your school? Are you people being forced to pay more for pretty much everything too? Are classes being cut?

Do you watch the news???

Umm, I’m just trying to understand what the general mood on the UCLA campus is like. And no, I don’t watch the news. I don’t even know what newspapers are.

-Our “Night Powell” library hours are getting cut (that sucks for a lot of people)
-Fewer class selections
-Tuition is higher

How is it at Berk?

I don’t know if all of this has to do with budget cuts, but:

 1. Library hours have been cut
 2. Some Upper Division classes that were only taught by Professors are now being taught by TAs
 3. Dorms are much more expensive
 4. Food on campus and in the dining halls is more expensive (vs last year)
 5. The University health center now charges $30 for every visit to urgent care - this was free until like two weeks back
 6. Lesser research funding

but how about that new pauley?

lol^ pauley looks new i dont know why they are re doing it
http://www.ust.ucla.edu/ustweb/Projects/PROJECTS/pauley.htm

185 million…!

Damn that looks pretty nice.

looks like a waste of money to me

It is a waste of money for what little they’re doing to it. Pauley has a lot of problems, especially on the upper levels, and many won’t be fixed at all.

So how’s academic life at UCLA in general? (I’m like sort-of considering transferring next year)

meh. i’m sure it’s not better than cal. uc-wide sucks. bah.

So, what’s life at UCLA like? I’m almost done with my transfer application, but haven’t really decided if I want to transfer.
I’m applying for the Math/Econ program.

if you decide to transfer what schools are you considering transferring to? berkeley is a great school but not the right one for me. i’m planning to transfer out too but to a private school this time.

I also wanted to transfer to a private school, but I don’t think my GPA is good enough for the ones I was looking at (Stanford, Columbia, Brown). So I guess UCLA is my best option - but it seems like a pretty good one, plus the BS Econ/Math program is perfect for me and I love LA. USC is another option I’m considering, provided I get a decent scholarship.
