I was debating between two schools last year. I went to one of them, although I was also accepted to the other.
I was wondering what the rules are and what my chances are when I was accepted to two schools, went to one and it was a horrible mistake, and now I desperately want to go to the other school. The thing is, due to some very bad circumstances, I did so poorly my first semester that it would have been more beneficial to have NOT gone to school. And before asking "how bad?" ...just, bad. Worse than you can imagine. I've sorted a lot of things out and I can get my act together for second semester, but it's not soon enough for fall 2010 admittance.
What are my chances of getting into a school that already let me in after a semester at a school I couldn't possibly hate more?

Many (most/all?) schools have a form for reactivation, available to students that were accepted but didn’t attend, that is different from transferring. Call the school you were accepted to ask that they send you their reactivation form. The form will have a space asking whether or not you have any college, and you will have to be honest, but typically you will be pretty much automatically in, just more than likely not able to transfer in credits if it is bad as you allude to. The benefit to reactivation is it is easier than going through the transfer process and the timeline usually allows you to show your second semester grades. The reactivation form might not be due until May or June even…whereas transfer deadlines are much earlier. You will be able to show your improvement in time for Fall 2010.

Hope it all works out for you…
