You mentioned that you work in the admission office. Could you share the information on how the Deans Scholarships is giving? I know that SAT, GPA, etc are important. My son's stats: GPA: 4.1(w)/3.8(UW), SAT 2170, he only got 10K. But I see lots of others got more than that with lower SAT and GPA. Does the major matter? His major will be PharmD. What else is important?

I feel so special. But let me first say that I just work there. In fact, I’m not even paid (I never feel like working during the paid shifts…). So everything I say is JUST WHAT I’VE HEARD AND LEARNED. This is entirely my view of it. None of it should be taken as Northeastern policy or the policy of the Admissions office. If you are concerned or interested in the absolute policies of any administrative or academic office, you should contact the university.

That being said, I’ve been taught that the top 25% of applicants are offered merit scholarships. I’m not sure if it’s by college (like the honors program) or if it is overall. I believe it is the latter, but I could be wrong, so call admissions if you really want to know-- if they aren’t sure (like me) they can just ask one of the official admissions officers next door, which I’m not at the liberty to do so while sitting in my dorm room. Awards are from 5k to 17k a year for the first two years. Then it is “by semester” ranging from 2.5k to 8.5k for each full semester (summer is half of it). I’ve personally never heard of the scholarship going up, but it could happen. I am certain that it can go down! On your financial aid package it lists your required scholarship. I know my parents would KILL me if I got below a 3.0 for that reason. GPA requirements differ by the type of scholarship, and Trustee scholarships usually require a minimum number of volunteer hours a year.

This is (again) just my opinion, but I would assume that they rank scholarships the same way they rank students. Since it is the top 25%, scholarships would be given for the same reasons acceptance is- but better. Acceptance is a wholistic decisions, encompassing SAT, GPA, interest in Northeastern, extra-currics, volunteering, AP/Honors courses, your essay (well, if we have one, I can’t remember if Northeastern had an essay)-- everything. If it differs by college, which I don’t know if it does or not, then I would assume Pharmacy would have a much higher requirement for each scholarship because the applicants are so competitive. You should call admissions to find out.

And everyone should visit in February!! We just got new sweatshirts. Brave the cold and take a tour; campus looks awesome with snow (if we get more)!

Hi Neuchimie,
My daughter got Dean’s scholarship, I hope she can get Trustee scholarship also, do you think if we submit the 7th semester transcript to Northeastern would help it? Thanks.

Hi neuchimie,
If you don’t mind me asking you one more question, the 6th year Pharmacy students have 3 semesters of “Advanced Practice Experience” according to the Bouve College’s website, and it’s about $11K/semester tuition. Does the Dean’s Scholarship also apply to these three semesters? Thank you.

I have nooooo idea. That would be a question for the financial aid office. It took me a year to understand my own financial stuff, and I’m just in the simple 5 year program. Plus I’m not in Bouve or PharmD. I think the tuition is different for 6th year PharmD students… but I really have no idea, so you should call financial aid.
