A QUestions ABOUT VARSITYs

If you have played three varsity sports since freshmen or sophomore,
would this help for your admissions?

Definately, even if you're not recruited. If you're pretty good though, try and email the coaches and see if they'll push for your application.

One way or the other, they're still great ECs that show commitment, and maybe leadership (if you've been varsity that long, I assume you have at least one captainship?).

You want to know what everyones going to say..

The sports are a good ec for the application but unless you get recruited for one of the sports its not going to drastically change the outcome. But, it will help show you are active and challenge yourself.

^ exactly

you beat me to the punch, hswrestling. unless you're good enough to play at the collegiate level, being on a sports team is no different than being in chess club.

unless of course you can play chess at a collegiate level ;-)

I play three varsity sports and am the captain of all three (although any leadership is great for an app.) and I think that it takes much more commitment to do a varisty sport than any club. I haven't found a club in my school or community that takes two and a half hours after school on weekdays and 5-10 hours on the weekend. People look at EC lists and say, what? no math club, but which do you think takes more heart? I think a sucessful academic candidate can really be helped by being part of a few sports teams.

let me ask one more question.
How good do you have to be to play in DIVISION III in college?
Are they as good as players in Division I?

Also, if you can get recruited for Division III sports, is this also the case that coaches will help you to get in?

Division III doesn't mean that you don't have to be as good. There are plenty of top athletes that play Division III and get recruited while they could have also been playing DI. Also, If you do get recruited, coaches don't help you. You are already in. That is the whole point of being recruited.

thanks halopeno2

How good? Many Division III schools work just as hard in athletics for instance, take a visit to Williams.
