I'm going to buy a laptop soon and I don't know if I should go with XP Home edition or Professional edition.

Do I need XP Pro to connect to the school's wireless internet? Do most students use Pro or Home??

the 'getting connected' requirements that came in the mail said we needed xp pro. i'm not sure how necessary it really is, but i think you can get it for about $80 through NU which isn't a bad price.
how important the professional edition is may also depend on your major and how much computing you will be doing (e.g. engineering/comp sci)

nah you dont need pro... you dont really need to meet thoes requirements, those are just reccommendations for people so you dont buy a computer now that will be obsolete before you're a senior.
as long as you have an ethernet card and cord, you can connect to the network.

I know I can connect with a cord but I mean if I want to go to the library and get connected wirelessly (or anywhere else on campus for that matter) can I do it with Home or do i need XP pro? and why do they recommend pro and wat do most students use?

if you want to connect wirelessly, you need to have a wireless card (hardware) in your laptop. If its a new laptop, it probably has one, but check. If not, you need to buy one and have it installed in order to take advantage of wireless. XP Pro has nothing to do with this, wireless is all about what hardware you have, not what OS.

you don't need pro, but pro is better than home. i know at my hs, there were technical problems with connecting to the school server (not the internet, internet works fine with both) with home for some time... it was easier with pro.

i think its prounounced quiche boy

There really is no reason a student should need XP Professional. Wireless internet works even if you don't have Windows at all!
