A Really Obnoxious Person

I heard from a senior that he had a friend that took the SATs 3 times and got 2400 each time just to prove he's better than everyone else. Have you heard about anyone really obnoxious like this?

Hahahaha. well i havent met one but ive talked to one on this site. He bestowed shame on people.

Masterus, that's known as a "FOAF" (friend-of-a-friend) story. They make good tales, and are hardly ever true.

I heard from a teacher who is a friend of a teacher who knows the father of a kid who got 2350 on his first try and retook it the next month because he wanted to get 2400. Overachievers make me really angry.
What really ****es me off is that the story is true. I confirmed it several times.

....Ahahahahahaha.

Why would that make you angry? Obviously this kid is doing it just for his own sake, as long as he's not the one bragging about it, why is it such a big deal?

Oh, I have a FOAF story too. Some friend of a friend who was a sophomore got a 2380 on her first try at the SAT, showed it to her mom who said "It's okay, you'll do better next time."

He is bragging about it...he got 2400 his first time, why would he need to take it antoher 2 times and get 2400? He already got the top score so he's making it look like he's better than everyone else because he did 3 times.

Mastrus, no one contradicted you. arthurbulla was talking to stuck-on-1700

Maybe he wanted to make sure each time wasn't a fluke.

Let me ask yoo this, would you retake the SATs with a 2400 the first try.

2 really obnoxious people live at my house and own my life. They saw my 2390 and said, "That's OK, it's good enough."

If I were an adcom and I saw that on a kid's application, I'd reject them just because they were a freak. Don't they have better things to do on Saturday mornings?

^hahahahaha... i would too

The kid can already go wherever he wants; and is already qualified to recieve several scholarships. I don't see why he needs to take it again if he already knows that the colleges he wants will accept him.
I didn't like the fact that he said "I'm going to get 2400 on my first try."..that ****ed me off.

Isn't there a law about not discriminating against freaks?

"Maybe he wanted to make sure each time wasn't a fluke."

Ha ha, best response yet.

...All I have to say is..So?

Oh yeah, I really believe that.

Well, I'll grant you (stuck-on-1700) that him saying he'd get a 2400 on his first try is arrogant, but I don't really think you should fault him for trying to get to what he wanted. Unless he's being ridiculous (and he may be, whatever), he knows that the 2350 is more than enough to get into colleges and he just wants to prove (to himself or someone, who knows) that he can do it.

My thing is, I'm likely to do the same thing, but I'd be doing it to try to prove that I could do it to myself. I realize that the difference between 2350 and 2400 is more luck than skill, but, I dunno, the number would give me a kind of closure. I know that bragging about it would be stupid, but I know that it would get out eventually, and I wouldn't want people scoffing at me because I retook it just to prove it to myself...

Honestly, you can't start saying you'd reject these people just 'cause they're too academically perfect. You're likely to know less than half of what they do.

(And yes, I realize I mixed the response to two different posters in one, don't take offense, alright?)
