a rough number for those waitlisted?

^^^try checking out LACs with rolling admissions…one that comes to mind is St John’s in Santa Fe and Annapolis.

hello everyone! i too am waitlisted for pomona and just want to say thanks for all the stats! Their letter said that they would probably let us all know by May 7th. But some kids do get notified in July so this is going to be a test of patience. BY THE WAY: I need your help. I’ve also been accepted to UC Berkeley and have a forum on CC about if I should go to Pomona or Berkeley for pre-med. If you want to comment just paste “Help Please! UC Berkeley or Pomona for Pre-Med?” into google and comment. Thanks!

does anyone know if pomona is even going to its waitlist?

i would like to know too! when i talked to my admissions counselor at pomona, he said each admissions counselor waitlisted about 40 kids. times it by 12 counselors then he said they usually take 10% of the 200 kids who keep waitlist…i really want to go to pomona!! good luck to everyone!

Any one heard anything on the Pomona waitlist? Any movement?

I received an email today from pomona saying that while their class was full, they still wanted to offer me enrollment. It seems as if they’ll only be taking a few off the waitlist.

lets hope we get to enroll!!! =) im committed to CMC right now but i LOVED Pomona…hopefully we will hear back soon!

What is the word out of Pomona?

Everyone except for a few applicants were “dismissed” from the waitlist. They are leaving a few for movement later. They hope to let all know by June 30.

Only a few of us, including me, who were on the waitlist are going to be offered a spot if they get an opening. June 30th is the date we should know for sure if we can enroll or not. I hope I can enroll!!

My daughter also got the “offer a spot if an opening” notice last week … she is hoping to see you there too in August … Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!!! So you have any clear info on how many are on this current waitlist? Just wondering …

a lot more than the email implies

Seems pretty bogus to me. How can they assure admission to several wait-listees “if a spot opens up” given that one spot = one person off the wait-list? My advice: don’t set yourselves up for a second heartbreak: get excited about the equally great schools that have committed to you.

Don’t know why colleges can’t be honest. Just say we are keeping 20 or whatever people on the extended wait list in case openings occur later in the year. Then give statistics as to what this meant in prior years ( how many got accepted in this way in the past). Is that so difficult?

yeah I sent pomona admissions two emails asking what you just said chipop and they haven’t responded. It almost seems intentional. I’m getting very annoyed with them

Nobody who is smart enough to get on Pomona’s extended waitlist should be fooled into thinking this is an assurance that he or she will get in! Colleges use waitlists for people they would like to enroll if space opens up, but they would be crazy to be boxed in with specific numbers. If they say they expect to admit X off the waitlist, then everyone will clamor for more info - “Where do I rank on the list?” and that sort of thing. At least Pomona has the decency to trim down the waitlist instead of leaving more people hanging for months longer.

There is no reason they couldn’t say how many people are still on the waitlist. At least that would give people a rough idea of what their chances are. Of course nobody is thinking this is an assurance. These schools wouldn’t be boxed in by honesty.

I was referring to post 33 that mentioned assurances. I just don’t see this as dishonesty or misleading behavior. I guess Pomona could announce the length of their waitlist, but it still wouldn’t tell an applicant that much about their odds of getting off an un-ranked list.

Faux,

I don’t know if you read the actual email, but it is misleading. It suggests that you are their 1st choice. It states that the college is full but that if a space opens up you will be offered enrollment. Well, that could be true for you specifically or for 100 people. It sounds like you could be their 1st choice, which isn’t true.

Chipop - No, I was just going by how people described it, and how it has been phrased in years past. If it really does say “you get the space if one opens up”, then I’d agree that’s poorly done (and that’s not how they’ve put it in the past when offering a space on the extended waitlist). Sorry, I’ll shut up now. :)
